I came across this about a month ago on CGSociety.org. It really has an interesting flavor... kind of like the "anti-V." The aliens are capable of such great things and are of a technologically superior race, but are living in squaller, and are seen as a potentially dangerous and unpredictable member of society. It's really a great allegory on racism - not just in South Africa, but everywhere. It's also a great statement on how humanity is unwilling and slow to accept anything different/out of the ordinary, and as a result how we're slow to react to necessary change.
I think one of the most moving images in the film is the giant ships connected to facilities in the ground - it really sets a tone for how the aliens are just squeaking a living out of being on Earth.

A very disturbing film, the effects are quite good. I think it's a realistic approach towards such a scenario.
