HI. I'm kinda new around here, but I thought I'd post a picture I did a while back. It was rendered using Vue D'Esprit 3. I think it looks a bit basic now, because there isn't much detail on the actual model, and my landscaping skills weren't great. I think I should re-do it sometime. Hope you all like it anyways ;D

I like this Pete...great work mate. A fighting machine on Mars ...that's a great idea... Martians fighting each other!...There's another book there somewhere.

I started looking at the descriptions of the Fighting Machines as written in the book today, but I can't seem to make up my mind as to what H.G. Wells is describing, because it seems to change... Maybe the Martians didn't build each machine to the same design? Who knows Anyway, from a description in the book, I took my original 3D model of the Fighting Machine apart and customised it to look like this: I then edited it again to look like this: I like the 2nd one better, but I'd like input on which one you prefer. Sorry about the dodgy ground textures close to the camera position, I was running out of time

Pete, Out of the two, I like the second one. It has that kind of 'alive' look that I imagine the machines would have.
They are all very good, and I like the landscapes.

I think, to be closer to the book, the legs being splayed out as such wouldn't give the machines the same rolling gait that the book describes- this is were I think the legs in the Pendragon trailer are closer to the mark- but the hood attached to the body is definitely right on. This is where Pete Fussey's work is bang on.
I prefer the second of the latter two pictures- it's less contrived (but I see what you're getting at with the legs on the first of these- the 'muscles' to move them). This would certainly work for the handling machine very well- the legs are already very spider-like.
Great work nonetheless!

I just had a look at some of Peter Fussey's work. Very good. I'll have to see if I can incorporate some of his ideas into my next design. The reason I chose spidery legs for the second one is I caught a spider in the bathroom and noticed the smoothness of it's movements and figued it'd be good for a Fighting Machine... So I took a couple of photos of it and then let it go in the garden. I do definately like the Peter Fussey stuff though... Time to mess around with my 3d software again :-P *edit* Just finished editing my Martian... I'm a bit undecided, I still like the spidery legs of the 2nd one, but what do you think?
