A Martian in a clean crisp white suit dancing (John Travolta style) to the score from 'Saterday Night Fever' ;D, but with a bit of Heat Ray zooming about in the back ground for effect.

[glow=purple,2,300]Why not make it in keeping with the theme of WOTW and use 'Staying Alive' instead? Instead of the Bee Gees in a ruined house, you'd have them martians outside it! The Ah-ah-ah-ah bit could be their 'hooting' before staying alive by injecting themselves, Intercut between the three white suited legs of a tripod strutting down da street, tentacles slicking back the top of the cowl... Just had this image pop up in my head. Based on the chapter in the novel 'What We Saw Fro The Ruined House', when the narrator mentions about the humming sounds and dull thuds coming from the pit? - how about this then.
The Curate is looking through the peep hole to suddenly stummble backwards. The narrator goes towards the peep hole and see's what is going on in the pit. A Fighting Machine has lowered itself to ground level, the hood open, the occupant of the machine has got the FM CD player on playing dance music as other Martians are seen 'break dancing' to the music. . . The bass off the music is what is causing the vibrations, humming, dull thud sounds ;D ;D ;D

The FM has a sticker on the back saying 'I stop for no one'
When the Martians are observed for the first time in the pit on Horsell Common, the one Martian is seen wearing a novelty hat with the words 'I LOVE EARTH' across it
All the FMs have fluffy dice hanging in the wind sheilds - The scene with the 'Destruction Of Weybridge & Shepperton' when the fighting machine gets taken out and is mentioned being dragged off, instead of it being taken away by the other four machines, its seen being hauled away by a RAC/AA type breakdown service
One scene could show a desolate baron type landscape that is now Earth, its surface of wrecked buildings covered in Red Weed. As you pan closer and past a section of RW it 'sneezes'.
One scene showing a cylinder shooting across a laden sky to the sounds of the cylinder back firing (movie comic style car backfire)
