Hope you like it. The tripod is one of Martin Bowers fine models built for the early 80s abortive photo-comic book. Hope you don't mind my use of it Martin! The vessel is HMS Majestic (1895), a pre-Dreadnought battleship. www.martinbowersmodelworld.com/

That looks very cool.
It nicely shows the fact that the Fighting Machines look little in comparison with the Thunder Child, as stated by Wells in the novel.

Nice one!
Bower's models are fab.
I suspect the Dean brothers used a Majestic class battleship for their Thunder Child pic.

Thanks all, I've converted the picture to another 'London Illustrated News' as you can see. Hope you all like it! By the way, I think the vessel on the JW album is an 1896 Canopus-class battleship as opposed to the earlier Majestic I used. The funnels have a completely different arrangement, one in front of another as opposed to side-by-side. I'm not 100% sure though.

But the Dean brothers' version in 'Magnetic Storm' definitely uses a Majestic class vessel as its model, probably from the same (or at least a similar) photo you've used. I'll be scanning it in at the weekend...

Mc-Todd, That painting is AMAZING! I was aware that other pictures were comissioned for but not used by the Musical version. Is that one of the picutures? I demand that us on the board have access to those pictures! ;D

That is one of a handful of paintings originally commised for use for the album, but it was said the style was incorrect at the time and the machines a little to 'technical' if they were to be built for the stage, so attention was turned to the Michael Trim design we know today.

Well, once I've sobered up this weekend I plan to scan in the Dean pic (it'll have to be done in sections and 'stiched' together as it's way larger than my poxy A4 scanner can handle).
