Good evening, everyone!
Speaking of Martians, have any of you read Wells' short story "The Sea Raiders," published in 1896? Its an adventure story about a shoal of marauding octopus off the southern English coast. Some of the words he uses to describe the octopii (heh heh heh) and their habits are curiously like those he would have been using around that time for Martians in WOTW.
Fun stuff!

[glow=red,2,300]Quite a good (and nasty) story that one. I noticed he mentioned the beak in rather similar terms.[/glow]

John Wyndham. The Kraken Wakes is excellent, every bit as good as Triffids. Shame no-one's made a movie of it (mind you, after seeing Howard Keel singing at triffids, maybe not).

Brilliant book, almost War of the Worldish with the way they arrive etc.
I would also love to see a proper movie made of the book, or better still a tv series.

I know what you mean...I've always been struck by the simialarity of the Raiders and the Martians. The Raiders are somewhat nastier, but just as heartless.
