I just thought that with the overwhelmingly positive reviews that this tour has got on these boards, that some of you might like to redress the very negative single review that has been posted for the DVD release of this tour on Amazon.co.uk.
As there is only one (very negative) review on there it might be nice for some of you who had a different experience to make a post there and tell the potential viewer the other side of this musical.

No point really, the person is entitled to their own opinion.

yeah I agree with you, but thought that perhaps it might be nice for some people who had a different exeprience to tell their story for prospective dvd buyers.

It defiently has it's "cringe" moments that just didn't work. But the whole spectacle of the event more or less made up for those lackign moments.
The voice over of George's wife... pointless addition where silence worked best
I wish they left out the computer game reference at the beggining
Pasron Nathanial was more than just a nervous wreck, he over acted a fair few lines.
And yet the charm of the whole DVD, the one actress that stole the whole show in my opinion was Tara Blaise. Her voice, her poise her very presence stole the show. Every moment she was on stage, I was in awe of her perfomance. The queen of the show no doubt.
Jeff, fantastic DVD, fantastic show, fantastic spectacle. It's a shame that I may not be in the country when it returns on tour. For what it lacked, it more than made up for 10 fold in everything else.
But then I wouldnt want a perfect show, just something nly Jeff Wayne can deliver, and damn, did he deliver?
((At the tme of writing i have yet to watch Dead London and Epilogue))

I thought it was now time for me to voice my opinion on the tour DVD that recently became available, i had for some time been watching this site and JW's with keen interest about how this production was going and how it was put together. I did initally have concerns that the album being transfered to the stage and wondered how the public would take to this great album with a new cast being performed live on stage! Ok i like everyone else has seen the test footage, trailers and pics displayed everywhere (all looking slick i might add!). I am glad to say JW didn't let me down with the DVD and having watched it a couple of times i must say i am very impressed about the ammount of hard work that has gone into this first rate project. JW clearly appeared to be having the time of his life on stage and the CGI footage is as good if not better than anything i have seen coming out of hollywood in recent times. I would love to see this tour in 2007 for myself and i hope JW will go ahead and produce a CGI version of the book/album that he indicated about.

Having watched the dvd now I must admit that it wasn't filmed in quite the style that I had expected (not necessarily a bad thing - just my expectations were different). From the earlier examples of the cgi on the mediastation site advertising this dvd, I had assumed that the dvd would have bits on screen which were the action/animation scenes directly edited into the program. But they were for the most part seen as the audience would have seen them - filmed behind the band/performers etc.
The cgi elements looked great when they were used as a part of the DVD menus, but occasionally looked a bit rough seen filmed on the screen in the stadium. It looked a little like one of those pirated movies which have been filmed from the back of the theatre!
This is not to say that the experience as a whole wasn't an enjoyable one. I thought that it was very good. I suppose I just had different expectations about how the cgi elements of the show would have been edited into the DVD.
As for the performers, I am sorry but I didn't like Tara Blaise's voice so much. At times I thought that it cracked up a bit and was a little shaky. But in front of thousands of people it would be hard for anyone to remain in their best performance! It must be terrifying to do. I'd be interested to hear more of her and assess her in a different scenario than a live show like this one. Russell Watson was okay (although perhaps not the greatest actor), although the dvd extras docos did kind of make him out to be an attention-seeking egocentric primadonna! But this may have been an unfair way of seeing some of his antics, as at other times on the DVD extras he also came across as a man with a great love and knowledge of musical theatre and intelligent also.
Chris Thompson seemed like he was struggling with some of the higher/longer notes in his songs, but not enough to be able to say that he wasn't great. I thought it was amazing to see this performance with it's many original cast members and the new ones too.
Watching the DVD extras was intriguing, as it gave an insight into how the performers start off getting their voices back in sync with the material, and obviously blocking their movements on stage. To see all the things that go into a show like this is mind boggling as it was a mammoth effort, and for me was a wonderful show. The orchestra and band sounded brilliant and indeed it was so cool to see the legendary Jeff Wayne in person conducting his own music!
So basically it was a great DVD of a great show, but with one or two moments which I didn't quite gell with. But live theatre is like that isn't it. It isn't the perfect edited adjusted piece that we hear on CD when we listen to our favourite performers. So perhaps some of my criticisms of some of the show's performances is a bit harsh? If so, I'm sorry, as I don't wish to be 'down' on the amazing efforts of a group of very talented people.

I was also disappointed by Russell in the live show, but knowing now what has happened since I think we should allow him some leeway ! Tara Blaise was good, and should not be directly compared to Julie Convingtons recorded perfomance. I agree about the CGI, I was shocked on the DVD to see the amount of pixelation, but I guess it was designed for the BIG screen... As for Chris Thompson. I am sure that there are singers out there who could have given a better live performance, but for me the value of having the man who sang on the album far outweighed this. Kev.

I wasn't sure what you meant about his news (i.e. his benign brain tumour and it's removal) but having just read about it (I googled it after reading your post), it does explain his headaches that he was suffering during the WOTW live show...
As for your comments about Tara Blaise, I can see where you are coming from, as I was aware that it was a live performance, and that one shouldn't compare a performance of a piece of music done in studio which can be edited and enhanced with another performance by a different artist in a live situation.
But I was aware of times whilst watching the DVD where Tara Blaise's voice did seem to break up a bit and tremble and sound a bit tinny. But I concur that I may have been too harsh in this assessment as there was that unfair comparison with Julie Covington going on in my mind whilst listening to it.
I also am very glad that Chris Thompson was in the cast, and hearing him sing his song again after so many years was nice and heart warming (as was Justin Hayward).
I am not someone who criticises just for the sake of it, and I do appreciate the difficulties in live peformance, and I hope that my mild negative comments don't take anything away from anyone's elses enjoyment of this great show/DVD.

I agree about the CGI, I was shocked on the DVD to see the amount of pixelation, but I guess it was designed for the BIG screen... The pixelation is accounted due to the locked off camera being so close to the screen. As the screen is 120ft in length, the CGI is to be seen from a distance and not upclose. Very similar to sitting upclose to your tv screen. The closer you are the more pixels you will see.
