went to the Nottingham ice arena show last night (at time of posting) in the words of Kate Bush WOW O WOW O WOW! the music, the cgi, the live bands and the cast ermmm.. oh yeah that on stage fighting machine! i thought it was just legs as it came down and they would stamp around the stage not sure if it "raised itself to full height" but the heat ray certainly did strike the audience. a quick two things to Jeff Wayne 1 thank you thank you thank you 2 and its about time

Got back from Manchester a bit ago... Im not going to post some huge review.. I cant do that but...
OH MY GOD
wow just plain wow! I swear that was one of the best things I have ever experienced. 5 rows from the front aswell.. was amazing!
And I was really *really* impressed with all the people who had to take over the parts to sing, they did such a good job!
And that tripod oh my god, I swear if I was a few years younger I would of actually been crying in fear, it was so amazing.
I literally had goosebumps allll the way through.
I got a programme and a shirt, something Im going to end up wearing for weeks no doubt.
So yeh I'll just be repeating my self now but wow! and the CGI aswell.. yeh wow!
Sorry Im still a bit giddy

Like Zoe, I'm not going to post a massive review, because some of the other guys have already done that brilliantly.
All I will say was that I thought the performance was stunning, stunning, stunning. I don't feel that it could of been improved in any way, shape or form. Jeff and the rest of the crew deserve a massive pat on the back/round of applause/round of beers, wine, spirits etc.. for pulling off this massive massive show.
I'm not embarrassed to say that when the eve of the war kicked off that I had tears in my eyes, and one of my friends who came along with us became quite emotional throughout. I have to say that I thought the Artilleryman stole the show, and that he had me chuckling to my self with his performance. Not in a mocking way, but in the fact that he brought such zest, enthusiasm and "humour", to what at times is a very heavy piece of music.
I really don't know what else to say, (people who know me will be shocked at that!), so I will just say a mega thanks to Jeff and the gang for providing me with one of my most memorable and magical experiences that I have had in a long time!

I'm not embarrassed to say that when the eve of the war kicked off that I had tears in my eyes, So did I! I seriously did... at first it was because I was sad because I know my grandad who died would of loved it but then, I think it was because I just got emotional at the show... never ever done that at a show before... not even when I went to see the mighty boosh for the last time

Hey Zoe. Glad you enjoyed it as much as did. I saw James perform their last ever Manchester show at the MEN in 2001, and I didn't feel as emotional as I did last night, and James have been my fave band since 1990.

I saw the Wembley show last night. Without huge torrents of gush, BLOODY SMASHING!
The performances were all top notch- I was dead impressed that Chris Thompson can really still belt the notes out and all of the new cast members did a cracking jop.
I was pleasantly surprised by the martian opening and the fact that you don't see the martians too clearly in their shots was very well,in my opinion, a good choice. The sound of the cylinder opening was absolutely thunderous with the sound system and the sound in general was exceptional- great mixing and generally very clear. The CGI and on-screen cast were all brilliant with the martian eyes looking much better in many shots thankyouverymuch! The sense of scale as a the figting maching passes the on-screen journalist was awesome.
Not sure what my favourite part was- I had a huge rush of excitement and, having grown up with the album, emotion when the Eve of the War got going. An interesting thing I noted, which I hadn't through countless plays of the album, is the way the orchestra alternates with the electric/electronic music through the whole work- almost like the earthliness of the violins etc with the alien element of the synths and guitars- seeing Jeff conduct them separately really made this interplay obvious. The way they took the martian noises out of the regular timing and panned them about during The Heat Ray and Horsell Common was very interesting- nice touch. I think possibly Spirit of Man was the top song for the show though- the cast performed exceptionally on this one.
So all in all, I got a load from the show and gained a new perspective on the whole thing. Marvellous. If it comes back around for a second showing, I'll be queueing for tickets for as many shows as I can!

Maybe he couldn't hide his nerves for the first few shows, particularly after the technical glitches in the dress rehearsal. He was the one who was worried it might all turn out like Spinal Tap. ;D

Saw the show in Newcastle last night. Justin Hayward seemed quite at ease, perhaps he had some early nerves, not suprising when you're fronting such a BIG extravaganza ! You've heard of the "full 3-ring-circus" ? This was a 4 or 5 ! Must agree with the posters here, such a spectacular show, absolutely loved it. Kev.

OK.. So I got the first review out on this thread, but I`ve never backed it up with pictures. Excuse the webpage.. it was only done using additional software so is far from refined, but does the job. homepages.nildram.co.uk/~dwells/wotwpics/Enjoy !
