Hey Now Troops, just a quick enquiry.... Been a bit bored n trawling thru some old threads tonight and came upon a campaign to reinstate Ozzie The Owl. Who was he? And what's the story behind reinstating him.? To what? Apologies if this has been covered in depth before. Couldn't find him on the 'search' thingy...

Lupe is right. Ozzie was the owl hooting that was featured in the early takes of The Artilleryman and the Fighting Machine. You can hear it now in the SACD layer of the reissue and the early take it comes from is on the 'Collector's Edition'.

It has recently come to light that the owl you see in the above campaign is infact an imposter, an owl trying to take credit for the real 'Ozzie' who has never been photographed. Ozzie is still with us today, living a life of luxury in the United States, at a far old age and kindly looked after by non other than Doris Day.

What's so special about this owl that he gets his own fanclub?

I think the point is that the owl sound at the beginning of the track (along with the guns firing) was pretty cool sounding and people would like to see him back in his rightful place.

Oh, I'd forgotten about that Ozzie banner. So, the little hooter is living with Doris Day these days is he? Hmmm... I always imagined that he'd get a job with Rick Wakeman somewhere.

Excellent news.
It looks as if our campaign "Justice for Ozzie" has finally paid off. His hooting can clearly be heard during the live concert performance having been reinstated in the "Artilleryman and The Fighting Machine". It echoed around the Brighton Centre chilling me to the bone. Oh, I wouldn't want to have been a mouse that night, I can tell you.
It's good to know that in the early years of the 21st century the people's voice can still have an effect in important issues and policies.
Victory!
