I was surprised to read recently that JW's album was translated into various different languages. apparently anthony Quinn was the narrator for the Spanish one and curt jurgens did the German one. I never knew that!

I already have the german version. Curd Jürgens as narrator is quite atmospheric. The other voices are cute too.The 1996 german recording is in dolby surround.
But I never heard the spanish version !!! Is anybody out there who´s the lucky owner of that version ?

Jeff Wayne Music have kindly given us more details of this years world-wide album relaunch of Jeff Wayne's Musical Version Of The War Of The Worlds. Fans of the classic album will be delighted to know of other formats being released. This June 13th will see the launch of the 'Collectors Edition Boxset, but also available will be the double album available in SA-CD format on its own, instead of just part of the Collector's Edition. More details about the 'Collectors Edition Boxset' can be viewed here: robk.proboards13.com/index.cgi?board=musical&action=display&thread=1114107485Jeff Wayne Music/Sony BMG are also remixing both the Spanish and the German language versions for SA-CD. No . . . It was never done in French when released, and if it were to be done it would mean going back into the studio and getting someone to 'freshly' narrate the album in French.

I think, if they were to do a french version, Jean Reno would be perfect for the Journalist.

There was a spanish language version narrated by Anthony Quinn. In fact, it apparently reached number 1 in the Spanish charts while the English version only reached number 7. I can't find any details on the web about it though I'm afraid. Anyway, the spanish version is going to be re-released too.
