I have always liked the JW Tripod. The cover for the album is now becoming a classic icon of LP design for the 70s. Without any doubt, JWs Tripods are very simple in design and look. The most striking feature of the machine are those two huge eyes, very insect looking. Unlike Wells tripod, JWs has its draw backs. Wells tripods had agile legs that could contract, giving the making the ability to squat, were as JWs has solid 3 tubed legs making them rigid. Wells machines when squated could be accessed through the hood, giving the martian easyness to enter the machine, JWs version, oooppss, martian problem, how does the little fella get into the hood and out of the hood while its still up in the air.
On JWs version there is however access into the hood. Around the edge of the hood you will see a black seam. Around the eyes there is a raised lip that blends into a structure that hangs beneath the hood. And just infront of the side legs there is another black seam. The whole section - eyes, structure and panel section infront of legs could lift away from the rest of the body and swing down giving access for the martian.
Again, other details missed out on the JW tripod, the basket that Wells describes, the genarator of the heat ray, the array of steel tenticles. The heat ray tube is a good idea on the JW version. It can simply retract itself back into the main body and the small door then can close.

These would be antenna's and the circular opening just beneath the eyes would be the speaker that the martians use for communicating to one another - Ullaaaa

Sir Richard Scratcher MP muttered an oath under his breath. "Man-Alive,my confounded hunter has stopped again...What's does old ben say the time is" Looking up he saw a curious round screaming floating blimp fly over the top of Big Ben. "BYE-JOVE...I WO.." He started to say just as he got a face full of Martian piss. B-B.

"ULLLLLLLLLLAAAAAAAAAAAA"
Harry Grotts sat on his throne in the outside karzi swatting the flies that flew around his bare bum.
"Feckkin' little pain's" he swore aloud as he sent another fly to fly heaven.
"UUUUUUULLLLLLLLLLLLLAAAAAAA"
"Be-jasus,what's that" Grotts exclaimed as the sound of the flying screaming piss stained truss wearing martian closed in on his little refuge from the wife.
"UUUULLLLLLLLLLLAAAAAAA"
Grotts red with rage at the increasing sound pulled his trousers up,just in time as Sidney crashed through the roof of the crap house sending Grotts, half a dozen flies and the contents of the toilet bowl to oblivion.

My continuation of DF's the War of the Worlds chapter 10, drainage in the streets. "Then a fighting machine appeared above Big Ben, raised itself to full height, and with slow, deliberate movements, squeegeed away the urine that dripped menaceingly onto the roads below. Then, I saw it ring it out into a great metal bucket upon its back. People ran away screaming: AH! HE COULD DUMP HIS BUCKET ON US! This was no disciplined march, it was a stampede. Six million people, afraid of a weeks worth of dry cleaning and the bill, going full speed." I could swear I posted this already.

Could be some sort of air intake or something like on those 50's mig things. Or the warships light beam. Ask the designer. And the feet are all different! Theres no same feet design, Parson Nathaniel picture: No feet whatsoever. The Birds: discs for feet. CGI movie clip: Claw-like feet. Why must you not have universal feet?

The small round black port under the eye's is a speaker for when the machines call out to one another (Aloo & Ulla).

I thought they were telepathic...Wells' character said they were. The Ullla thing was something they did when they got excited.

The narrator 'hint's that they could be telepathic, but he's unsure. The sounds of 'Ulla' and 'Aloo' come from the machines (Fighting Machines) rather than the actual living Martian, something that has been talked about in great depth upon this site as some kind of communication device to calculate distance or a command to each machine. The narrator observes the Martians in a form of cuminication while looking upon them during the chapter 'What We Saw From The Ruined House'. He says that during feeding, the Martians make a 'hoot' sound but this could be due to the Earths effects upon the creatures causing some kind of breathing problem. The other form of comunication as suggested by the narrator is when the Martians use there tenticles, to him it appears as some kind of 'hand' signal or gesture.

I think the needles are for people, lord knows what a shrink would make of this interpritation but I think the tentacle pics people up and sticks them on the spikes for later, like offices that have those nails on desks for memos and other loose paper.
