As a life time resident of the town made famous by the WOTW novel i know a few things about the town. Facts: The UK first cremotoriun was built here. The UK's first mosque was built here The famous Chobham armour fitted to British and American Tanks is made and developed here. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chobham_armourWoking holds the record for the closest two licenced breweries in the world (5 foot 2 inches apart) The worlds biggest garden nursery was turned into Europes biggest housing estate in the 70's Its the UK HQ of THQ games and Telewest Broadband and KFC. (play games, watch TV and get fat...) The worlds biggest cemetary is here: Brookwood Cemetary (now biggest in Europe, the cemetary has been superseeded) (Since 1854 200,000 people have been buried there. Its is 2000 acres big and used to have its own railway station.) People: The Hawkins brothers from The Darkness were born here as was: Eric Clapton Paul Weller and his band the Jam. (The Jam song 'Town Called Malice' is all about Woking. Paul Weller 's album Stanley Road is the street in woking where PW was brought up. Its now the HQ of THQ all the homes are knocked down.) Interesting. I have a relative who used to live in Brookwood, so I knew about the Brookwood Cemetary Railway.
