Well, when I first saw WOTW 2005 I got pretty freaked out.
These huge hulking machines on three legs (the tripods) with lazer beam arms frying people left and right. Not to mention their freaky little eye that they poke down in the celler...
I really had a problem with the sound they make. (The loud airhorn sounding thing.) I swore, a day after seeing it, I was walking home from the store and I swear, I heard it. But thats probably me and my overactive imagination... =)
How about you guys? Did any of you ever get a disturbing feeling about these tripod things?

Sure you could have heard it. It sounds like a semi's airhorn, that's why we call it the "airhorn" sound. So why would you think it was just your imagination?

Primarily because it was the exact same sound. I got goosebumps and the shivers from hearing it.
But it might have been a semi's air horn. (although I never heard a semi sound exactly like the tripod.)
But like I said, it might just be my overactive imagination =)

There is something about this story for me and something about giant tripods that gives me an almost primal fear deep inside. Not sure how to explain it really, the whole thing just 'clicks' for me and terrifies me. I get the same feeling from seeing human bodies with dogs head lol No idea why, it just scares the willies out of me on a deep deep level

I had a wotw dream once that got me totaly freake dout, I think it was in the victorian age, I'm not sure. It was pitch black at night, only lit by street lamps and the likes and I was constantly hidinng from the Fighting Machines. I think I imagined them being the Jeff Wayne style though.
Still scary as hell!

Still scary as hell! I also had a dream. This one was different. I was leading a tripod army against another faction of tripods that had escaped Mars and were trying to take over Earth. I dreamed that these 'Renegade' tripods were like the Jeff Wayne style and the ones I lead were my own design. We had standard Martian weapons (Heat rays and Black smoke) and also we had hand held heat rays. The fighting took place over most of the world (mainly in Australia because that's where i live ). It also involved a lot of my friends (But none of them got fried or gased). But we won you'll all be glad to know.

That sound freaks me out also!! But it fascinates me, so much that I have it as part of my computer sounds, for windows exit.
If anyone grew up in northeastern New Jersey (Paterson, Hawthorne, Glen Rock, Fairlawn) in the 1950s through early 1970s (you do the math as to how old I am!) then you'd remember that the tripod sound is eerily similar to the "fire sirens". We had all volunteer fire departments back then and these horns were used to call the men to a fire. They were coded blasts and one sounded very much like the Tripod Call. Let me tell you, when you're a little kid and you hear one of those horns suddenly blasting into the night, you NEVER forget that sound! Plus, your bedsheets hardly ever dry out!
Well, see ya'll!

yeah that loud airhorn sound really is frightening. after you hear it again though it kind of sucks. i mean... its cool and all, just subtract every scene in that movie that ISN'T a tripod blowing its airhorn and its a pretty damn good flick
