Maybe this has been discussed earlier, but SS and TC state that the "cellar scene" is almost directly from the Wells novel (the "ruined house" chapter). It seems to me that Cruise and his daughter are trapped and that the daughter takes over te place of the curate. think about it, a little child in such a situation. What do you guys think?

Well hopefully he doesn't smash his daughter over the head with a bottle to subdue her and then the Martians take her away I see what you mean TC. It gives it a much more sinister edge if the child has to witness the Martians feeding.

if you think about it, the Curates actions are very childlike, so it wouldnt be much of a stretch.

[glow=purple,2,300]I wondered about how SS would interpret the Cellar scene. In the book, it descended into madness, resentment, hate, squalour, meaness and self-preservation. Even the Writer gets to the point where he's hiding food, and lets the Curate starve out of spite. The writer is also deliberately vague as to what he does to the Curate - was it deliberate murder, which side of the axe did he really use, it he just trying to convince himself he's not a murderer?
Will we see scenes where Tom considers sacrificing Dakota to save himself? Dakota hiding food from Tom? Tom beating her almost senseless? Fighting over scraps of food? Cabin fever and psychosis?
I'd like to see Tom lose the plot, and end up knocking Dakota senseless. Thinking she's dead, he falls apart. Then a tentacle creeps in and starts to drag her away. As she leaves the cellar, she wakes up and starts screaming, as Tom realizes she's not dead and has the dilemma of trying to get her back, or cowering in the cellar like a big girls blouse. I doubt SS will go that far though, and make it a 'lets stick together and we'll survive' scene, where they cosily watch the feeding until they can wander off without being noticed.[/glow]

Nice idea's, but no way would Hollywoodland allow such extreme scenes to be shown.
