Hello all! Me and a few friends thought of making some cool things for science, and I sugest a Tesla coil, hearing it from this site, how silly I was! Don't worry! No one was hurt or, god fobid, killed. Mainly because we didn't start... I found some sites on how to build one, and then found one with all the warnings on making one! Bloomin' 'ell! HOW MANY VOLTS? --- Mabey next time I'll make a some shadow puppets...

I used to work with Tesla Coils all the time at the Carnegie Science Center in Pittsburgh. We had one of the desktop modems, about 9 inches high that I would get about half an inch of arc off of. It takes 67,000 volts to arc through 1 inch of air so it was about 30,000 volts. If you left your finger in place for more than a moment it would raise a blister but if you kept your hand moving it was no big deal.
Behind me we had a big coil. It stood about 8 feet high and threw of 6-8 foot arcs. Now that was fun.
