Just wondering.....
Lately, this rather ominus little phrase, roughly translated as "The end is near", is popping up on screen during commercials lately. I've even heard they've got billboards. Many say it's advertising "War of the Worlds", is that official? Seems if it were true...someone here would know,

So it is an ad for WOTW? There have been three nominees for these adds "War OF the Worlds" "Hitchhiker's Guide for the Galaxy" which opens with the world being destoryed to make way for a Galactic Freeway "Revelations" a NBC TV miniseries about a scientist (Played by Bill Pullman of all people) and a Nun trying to stop the end of the world from coming Thing is that ads could have been for any on these. I was betting on the TV show simply because the five second technique is not used for movies much but is for television shows. Nice teaser buy as my wife who is in marketing stated if you advertise something it should be clear what product is being advertised..you don' t have to spell it out exactly but it should be clear...a bit too clever, perhaps.

Hi WOW fans, I hope Rob doesn't mind if I splash my URL in here, but I had written an article about this last night and you can find it here: www.waroftheworldsfilm.com/nm/publish/news_110.shtmlAnyways, my two cents: I had heard about this phenomenon last week around Wednesday when people sent in questions asking if it was related to the film. My initial reaction was that the Latin phrase was for "Revelations" and not WOW. These ads just did not fit the style that the filmmakers were going for in WOW. However, I sent an email to Paramount's Marketing division asking whether they could clarify the confusion. At first, the person I sent it to was not aware about this ad campaign, but a few minutes later he wrote back to me with the single phrase: "No Comment." The more I think about it, I say to myself, "who cares"? Really, who cares? I asked some friends online about they ads and they fell asleep. Is this material really worth reporting and talking about? Are we this die-hard?? Yes! There's nothing wrong about that.....I think

Anyone see the latest Ford F-150 commercial? In the beginning it shows the planet from space and the narrator says something like "the end is near".....or something like that. It then shows the usual truck commercial stuff.
Kinda' weird. Steven Spielberg in association with Ford motor company and Paramount pictures is proud to bring you H.G. Wells novel about an........................? Tom C's car in the movie is a Ford Mustang, aint it? Hmmmmmmm

"These adverts are a load of crap" Not necessarily. They certainly got people's interest going for the TV show. The name of the game is publicity and the show will probably get monster ratings because of this Brouhaha. BUt the New York Times blows it..again. How "America's Newpaper of Record" could make such a rookie mistake I don't know..... My own first guess was it was for the "Revelations " TV Miniseries simply because of the Biblical angle of the quote.

Yeah, but WOW did benefit from the extra publicity.
dudalb, how could you think that this was an advertisment for Hitchhiker's Guide? You don't advertise a silly movie as a horror picture.
