Ha! Ha! Get a load of this. Spielbergs now saying that he thinks the 1953 George Pal film is corny. www.dreamworksfansite.com/waroftheworlds/?page=4Don't remember him saying that about it before. In fact I remember him saying that the Pal film was one of his greatest influences. Could he now be trying to win favour with fans of the book one wonders - so they won't criticise his film so much.

I like that. . . .I bet some big film director in another 50 years time will say Spielbergs 2005 film is corny. I too must say that Im sure I read Speilberg said he either liked the 53 film or he was influenced by it, but I can't remember where.

I'm positive I've read that the 1953 film was one of his biggest influences and I find it odd that he would come up with that statement now. I'm off to do a search on Google.

The truth is it is corny but is still one of the bench mark sci-fi movie of the era, so I agree with Spielberg in that respect.

Corny is not a word I would use for the 53, 'of its time' yes, but not corny.

Yes it's a bit rich Spielberg saying this especially when he's getting so much criticism for his upcoming flick - which sounds corny itself. As you say it's of it's time and even though people also criticised Pals film for it's changes, Spielbergs got no excuse this time.

I really haven't seen too much critism of the upcoming SS film yet. Just a small group, ,mostly die hard wells fans, repeating the same over and over again ;D Still, I'm not making too much of this, because I really don't see the big deal in it. but maybe even more so because reporters are notorious for misquoting people. I usually wait on comenting on things before hearing and seeing it myself

True, lots of corny films can be good and I also didn't mind Independence Day. Spielberg obviously thinks that his film is going to be something special though. Wish I could agree with him!

There's also a small group of diehard Spielberg fans who are repeating the same thing over and over.

I personally think it will be fantastic so long as he gets the mood right. It better be seeing as how Pendragons picture appears to have gone down the shister, oh well, we will always have Gerkinmans and Jeff Waynes versions ;D

Corny is not a word I would use for the 53, 'of its time' yes, but not corny. Of course it was corny H_C! It was one of the iconic movies that set the bench mark for all that followed, it had ground breaking SFX and it was action packed, its on my shelf as one of the greats but that doesnt mean its not corny, of course it is....square dance anyone?

Yeah I havent noticed any other negativity about the SS movie apart from on these boards amongst the die hard fans who keep bitching about the changes. As far as I can see elsewhere everybody is stoked about this film, I for one can't wait!

I don't know about corny, but definately 'of it's time', because these days I can hardly stay awake watching it!! I can't remember the last time I saw it all the way through!!
I haven't seen any real negativity anywhere on the SS version. There's been disapointment, and some lively bashing at some of the changes, but on the whole, people are looking forward to it. We haven't really seen or heard enough to get negative about. Even hardcore wells fans look forward to it. OK, it may not be Wells's WOTW, but it'll still be a good movie to see.

Well you think its corny were as I don't. . . . I see it as a film 'of its time'. Its regarded a iconic movie 'today', and it did win a award for its FX back in 53 and deservidly so, but its now differant from most films today with FX. It had ground breaking FX when completed in 1953, very much like 'Titanic' of 1998 and 'Day After Tomorrow' of 2004. The square dance theme may appear to many 'today' as corny, but why wouldn't it, we don't see much of that today but that was the craze back in the late 40s early 50s. It would be like going to your favourite nightclub and doing the 'twist' to the latest Emenem track.

Probably one of the biggest, if not the biggest sci fi mags around. A two page feature entitled - Spielberg are you listenining? The 'Most Wanted' request was that it should have been set in Victorian England.
