If someone did a war of the worlds on TV would it be believeable to scare people or just laughable?

Yes it could. A version of WotW.. simliar to the one that Paramount intially did.. but done for now.. would work fine. Better, perhaps, than 'Invasion' or 'Lost' have been done. I think that the TV series was ahead of it's time. If it had been done now, we would have seen a better result.

I think that the TV series was ahead of it's time. WHO ARE YOU AND WHAT HAVE YOU DONE WITH THE REAL EVILNERFHERDER?? Okay... I guess not everyone thinks the "War of the Worlds" TV show was the very worst science fiction TV show of all time.

Lol! It's me.. really it is. I was a bit 'tired' when I wrote that. What I meant was, if Paramount had actually cared about the show, put more money and effort into it and perhaps thrown in some of today's FX, it would have probably been much better. I'd like to see how it would turn out today. As I've said before, I thought the first season wasn't bad.. particularly the first couple of episodes. It went downhill from there.

I remember a film that I saw that was very heavily influenced by the radio broadcast. It was called "Without Warning". Now I caught this film halfway through when I was a quite young, and the channel I saw it on, played it without ad-breaks. anyway, It was a news report that claimed three meteors had hit at three different points on the globe. And upon investigation, it seemed that this wasn't just coincidence - something else was heading our way. It actually terrified - and I thought it was really happening!
It wasn't until the end (after my mother had stopped me from running around the house screaming the world was going to end), I realised it was just a film!
So I really would love to see a WOTW inspired film, using the same sort of material as the Orson Wells broadcast. Get several high profile newscasters in it and I reckon it would look awesome!
