I love Kidd's work on the cover, as well as the few other images on eveofthewar.com... how many illustrations are in the book all together?

I was lucky enough to get hold of a copy of this book, and the illustrations are beautiful. I don't have it with me (it is back home in the UK with the rest of my collection) but i remember there being at least 6 in the book, But I'm sure there was more (someone correct me if I'm wrong), plus I got an extra sketch in the form of a LE bookplate in one of my copies.

i bought that book last year. It's gorgeous. In fact, used the paintings as graphics in a TV production project.

Yeah... I'm currently studying at University over here in CA - and have only been in the US since september. My actual home is on the Isle of Man in the UK. I'd lived there all my life, and fancied going somewhere different for university

Always glad to help. I'm pretty sure all 6 of the pics are on the eveofthewar.com website in the book illustrations section. For all who haven't seen it: forums.eveofthewar.com/photos/thumbnails.php?album=2there are some quite nice illustrations by other artists too. i like this one by Alvim Corréa: cuuuuute! ;D

Hey Luperis:
If you like Corrêa's work, pop on over to Seattle, where 9 of his original War of the Worlds drawings are on display at the Science Fiction Museum & Hall of Fame.
Cheers! Carioca

Of the artists listed on eveofthewar.com Tom Kidd and the unidentified French artist from a 1978 edition are my favorites. I appreciate Alvim Correa's work and his talent, but I don't like the cartoon style of representing the tripods. He does a good job of conveying mood - especially in his darker illustrations, but I feel this mood is undermined by his artistic approach to the book's content. I understand that he was the preferred illustrator in Wells' eye, but I'm just not a fan of his of his work. What prompted me to post my original question was the fact that Amazon has two images that aren't on eveofthewar.com, So I wanted to get an idea of how many illustrations I could expect to find. here are the images I found on Amazon: Woking before the warMartian cannon launching a cylinder

Everyone's a critic! :-)
Keep in mind that Corrêa (and even Goble) had nothing but his own imagination and style to "draw" from, while later artists could base their work or be inspired by those who pioneered the genre... This takes nothing away from Kidd, Gorey, and others, but puts War of the Worlds artwork in historical perspective and context.

'Even' Goble?
I would say especially Goble - he was the first illustrator of WOTW, after all!

I'll have to do a picture re-count when I get home (unless one of the other members here who actually has there copy to hand con do that )
