I stopped in at Barnes and Noble today and saw "War of the Worlds [UNABRIDGED] read by Christopher Hurt". It's apparently about 6 hours in length and about $20. Amazon has it for $17. www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0786182393I get paid on Friday and will probably be picking it up.

Cheers for that Geis. I have seen this about the net over the last few weeks, not really paying that much attention to it. But it would appear to be an interesting addition to someones collection - unabridged CD version of 6 hours. I take it that would be 2 disc's.

It's actually on 5 disks. I couldn't wait for my paycheck, emptied my wallet and looted the couch for loose change to buy it yesterday. Haven't had a chance to put it in the player, though. I'm thinking of ripping it to MP3 so that I can pack it all onto one disk.

I picked this up and have been listening in the car. Nice clean audio. 3 minute tracks. However, does not come close to the version on Recorded Books version narrated by Alexander Spencer. This is the best version of the book on tape/cd/mp3 that is available. Too darn expensive to buy, luckly my library has it on tape. here is the CD version for purchase: www.recordedbooks.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=rb.show_prod&prod_id=C2187

I've been researching many of the different audio versions of WOTW that are currently out. There's a TON!I've noticed an imbalance between how many Orson Welles Broadcasts are available compared to actual audio versons of the novel. Sort of seems backwards. Anyway, an extensive article on the various versions out there can be found here: www.greatnorthernaudio.com/sf_radio/wow.html As far as purchasing audio books, I'd reccomend checking this place out: www.learnoutloud.com/waroftheworlds and then making your decision from there. Like I said, there's a ton of versions to choose from and its hard to decide what's best. I've only really heard the Orson Welles' broadcast through various publishers. As far as audio book versions go, it seems like Recorded Books' version is one of the more notable ones, but I haven't heard any as of right now. I'm waiting on a few from my library as well. Hope this helps.
