Hurrah! That's the one I've got, and it's my fave illustration of the machines - possibly excepting that fantastic black and white one with the tripod with the lattice legs straddling a row of houses and tossing people into its basket. drzeus.best.vwh.net/wotw/illus/heinemann1.gifBut the cover one you show is how I picture the tripods. It's also the first book I ever bought (or was that John Christopher's 'The White Mountains' from that book shop in Honley?), I remember buying it from the Parish Church booksale in Holmfirth. Kind of ironic, giving the fate of the priest. A very dim memory. I think I was eight. Ahh, nostalgia. Anyway, glad you share the copy! Pete

I got the book when I was about 5. It was given to me because I liked the film so much. I think the tripods on it are proberbly my favourate. The Martian looks really good too. Just like a boiler on stilts!
By the way I really like that one in the link!

I really like this one, not because of the Fighting Machines but mostly because of the Martian.
