Hey Everybody! In an earlier thread, Krys666 mentioned a book called 'The Second War of the Worlds,' apparatly a sequel to the original book, where the Martians have aquired an immunity to Terrestrial Bacterium and Viral infections and have researched and created New Technology. Any one here read the book? My eyes popped out when I saw the mention, and, If any one here has read it and gives it a good review, I will be on Amazon and Ebay searching for it as quick as you can say Ulla!

This topic was actually discussed some time ago, by me and others. I have a copy of the book and I can honestly say that it's the poorest example of WOTW merchandise you could buy - all I can say is IGNORE!!! Basically the story is pathetic rubbish about a planet in a parallel universe to Earth that has forewarning of a Martian invasion, the ludicrous suggestion of an activist group actually ENCOURAGING the invaders to come in and suck everyone dry, and a stupid ending with a bunch of no-hopers lying in wait with grenades waiting for cylinders to land....absolute tosh!

I had it until a few months ago, I sold it on ebay for £25. Personally I thought it was crap, the price it fetched was good though

The Space Machine by Christopher Preist is an excellent mixture of the Time Machine and The War of the Worlds, not quite a sequel but worth reading.
Other's worth trying to get.
Sherlock Holmes vs The War of the Worlds by Wade Wellman
Global Dispatches edited by Kevin Anderson.

Yep, I'd recommend 'The Space Machine' as well.. it has excellent descriptions of life on Mars as well as the invasion of Earth. I still haven't read 'Global Dispatches'

There's a signed, allegedly pristine c1st edition copy of The Space Machine on eBay UK at the moment going for £12.99 (plus £2.40 P+P - a bit steep IMO for a book! ) . I was thinking of bidding on this...anyone reckon this is a good price?

But what about the cover art? On mine it has a tripod thing firing at the Thunderchild, the tripod has very slim legs, a flying saucer type body and octopuss tentacle type things coming out of it. The heat ray is "held" by one of the tentacals. I havent read it, but even though you say it's crap, i'll still give it ago!! Oh! And if i can i'll post my uncles war of the worlds type story if he does it...

Here is the book! Found at.. homepage.ntlworld.com/m.hodder/warworlds.htmlJust click at the top where it says "see actual size", don't worry, it's not the Sherlok Holmes pic! Is the "Sherlock Holmes in the War of the Worlds", any good?? I wouldn't think so..

[glow=red,2,300]The Sherlock Holmes book is pretty good, it does try and be 'better' than the original and has it's flaws but I still really liked it. Big Thanks again to DF for giving me a copy!
