The machine itself...the time lapse sequences, and the "twist" at the end (of course Ions was great too) -is what I liked about the movie...story, acting...bah. If the Elois had been pink midgets the movie would have been that much better. It's not a great representation of the book. But I already own the Time Machine and the original War of the Worlds...in fact WOTW was the first DVD I ever bought. I hope they come out with the ultimate special collector's edition though.

I agree, the new Time machine had that dire plot line of never being able to save his girlfiend, it was just tripe, what were they saying, that it was like final destination and death will find you no matter what? Crap. The Time Traveller didnt need an excuse, he just invents the time machine because hes an inventor, thats the point, human ingenuity The new Time machine design was ok but Guy Pierce will always be the bloke from naighbours, plus he was too thin and gaunt looking. The new Morloks were utter rubbish with their comedy monkey heads. But the thing that sealed its fate was Samantha Mumba. Her character was bloody crap as was her acting. They made the mistake of trying to improve on the story but how do you improve a classic? What weve all been saying motile when you tried to say SS would make a perfect WOTW. At least now you know what we weve been thinking!

What weve all been saying motile when you tried to say SS would make a perfect WOTW. At least now you know what we weve been thinking! Hang on there cowboy, when did I say that? One thing I hate its when people put word into my mouth. I have never said Spileberg will make the perfect WOTW, go through all my posts and quote me. I think he is a master director, a movie god and I think he was perfect for this project, absolutely I do, as long as we dont get his sickly sweet ending. In regards to WOTW I dont have a perfect director in mind, maybe James Cammeron as he did a good job on Titanic but who knows, the perfect WOTW would be victorian, by the book. Please dont now say "but Hines is making......" because we all know in all honest that he has not made the difinitive war of the worls not by along shot. So maniacs get you FACTs right before poking me with a post yeah?

You've continually said there was nothing wrong with updating the novel to modern day have you not.
I love speilbergs films...aaaaaaggggggghhhhhhhhhhh!!!!
But I have had no faith in him producing anything but his own version.
Id hardly call Saving Private Ryan a sickly sweet ending would you! Even Jaws had the anti climax, two heroes slay the monster and they have to swim home!!!

because we all know in all honest that he has not made the difinitive war of the worls not by along shot.
Almost every scene in the teaser trailers come from the book. Even when I thought he was wrong when I checked the story he wasn't. I wont knock him for adding to keep the story going etc but so far hes been closer than anyone.

You could get a bunch of primary school kids to read the book word for word in period custume, it would be faithful and as it had none of the added scenes like Big Ben it would actualy be closer to the book than Hines but it would not be the difinitive version and it would not be good, so please stop preaching that "close to the book" routine, it doesnt garantee a good movie and Hines has not made the difinitive version has he? No not by a long shot.
And there is nothing wrong with an updated version, nothing at all, I have said that time and again but I have never said Spielberg was the perfect director for war of the worlds, hes wouldnt be my first choice, but for this up to date version he is perfect yes, Koepp was responsible for the changes, Spielberg just sanctioned them, naughty Spielberg!
think about it, H G wrote WOTW in his time frame so it was victorian if he wrote it today it would be todays time frame, theres nothing wrong with modernising things, change is good, but I wonder has Spielberg wandered to far from the written path....
Its going to be ace whatever it turns out like.

Actually Speilberg would have been my first choice as long as I could make him do a faithful, period version. However Im sure his film will be very nice!
