I have been wondering if Paramount will re-release the 53 classic on DVD when there "new" version comes out. It may get a make over. The box art could be changed again, maybe some sort of documentary, stills gallery, behind the scenes stuff.

That'll be good...Gene Barry and Ann Robinson are still alive so they could do a commentary track snd there must be some behind the scene footage floating around.

Ann Robinson? "So, Martian Overlord, why Earth?" "It seemed like a soft target, and it didn't bank any money" "Bacteria, why Martian Overlord?" "Well, he thinks he's so big, I wanted to prove that he wasn't all powerful" "Martian Overlord, you are the weakest link. Goodbye."

D.F, thats very true, Barry & Robinson are still alive so shall we be seeing a cameo appearance by the both of them in the "new" movie.
Set the scene - old folks home, suddenly there is a green flash and the room around them falls apart. Barry gets up catching a fleeting glimpse of a cylinder then shouts "oh sh@t dear, them bloody ugly buggers are back again"

I watched the film again on Sunday, still great! Even with a few ropey effects and cheesy dialogue DVD edition would be great, especially a 'making of' programme Lee www.eveofthewar.co.uk

[glow=red,2,300]The film is out already on dvd... but without any extras as far as I'm aware... the lead-up to the new film would be a great time for a re-release with lots of extras as a collectors edition. [/glow]

I agree, a making would be great! And maybe a live commentary...
It would be good if they could ut the Radio Broadcast on there aswell!!
Maybe when the new film (s) come out, they might put them all into a box set. Worth getting

[glow=red,2,300]Universal had a good idea, as part of the Van Hellsing hype they released a lot of their old classic monster movies in boxed sets. I did get a bit annoyed when they released them first singly and the boxed sets came out here after I'd almost got the whole set of individual films but I'm buying the boxed sets anyway as they have many of the cool sequals in them Paramount should do the same with WotW and bring out the Pal movie as a collectors edition and a boxed set of the series! Forgive my ignorance, but was it Paramount (or a previous incarnation of said studio) who produced the 1953 film?
If so, as and when the new film is released on DVD, they could do what Universal did with The Italian Job and release a special Edition box set of both films, even though they are not pre/sequals to each other.

Yep, it was Paramount Mr Chappy. They've had the rights for years. A box set would be great. Surely, they must have stuff on the old film to make up extras and so on. Perhaps they could get Ann Robinson to do a commentary.

This is why I'm waiting with buying the DVD. I too hope a boxed/special/deluxe/limited/collectors/directors* edition comes out. I just dug out my VHS tape from under a pile of dust and my father will put in on DVD (hope the tape still holds together) so that will get me by for the time beeing.

Yes for some reason I haven't got a copy of War of the Worlds at all, yet I have the Time Machine. Something not quite right there, but I am holding off incase they do decide to re-release an updated edition and I know they will choose to do it exactly 1 month after I buy it!

The italian job was a remake of the film of the same name, Spilebergs WOTW is not a remake of the George Pal movie but an adaptation from the book, it is unlikely they would be released together as a set.

Just like the Time Machine movie, the original Italian Job was a much better film than the 'remake' in my opinion!

I agree, the new Time machine had that dire plot line of never being able to save his girlfiend, it was just tripe, what were they saying, that it was like final destination and death will find you no matter what? Crap. The Time Traveller didnt need an excuse, he just invents the time machine because hes an inventor, thats the point, human ingenuity
The new Time machine design was ok but Guy Pierce will always be the bloke from naighbours, plus he was too thin and gaunt looking. The new Morloks were utter rubbish with their comedy monkey heads.
But the thing that sealed its fate was Samantha Mumba. Her character was bloody crap as was her acting. They made the mistake of trying to improve on the story but how do you improve a classic?
