I won’t go into many details about the movie other than to say for the most part I liked it. There were few, if any, dull or dragging parts of the film. However, this may be the significant problem I see with the movie… it feels very rushed at the beginning as well as the end.
The beginning… the cylinder crashes, and two seconds later the machines are up and about. No suspense. And then two minutes later, the world has come to an end.
The ending… before we know it, two seconds after George gets to DC, the Martians croak.
Now I think the middle of the movie is superb, which really is what counts anyway.
I loved the book, as well as the 1953 movie (my four-year old daughter loves the 53 version too, especially when the Martian puts its hand on Sylvia’s shoulder. She also likes to see the, “Martians blow up the city!”
I’ve subjected my wife to both Pendragon’s as well as Asylum’s versions (and we are going to see the Cruise/Spielberg’s movie this afternoon). Her review of the Asylum movie, “that was a hell of a lot better than that other piece of $hit (Pendragon).” Her words, not mine. I did like some of Pendragon’s movie, but Asylum is clearly the superior of the two.
Overall, I give Asylum a thumbs up, I liked it… perhaps 3 ½ stars out of 5.

I wish I had of seen the Pendragon and Asylum versions before seeing Steven Spielbergs effort because I fear he has spoilt it for me. I still want to see the other versions but I don't think they have a hope of measuring up

Wait and see The Asylum's version. Then you'll know the difference between a very well written and acted movie and a carnival of special effects only...
