well, i could sum up with the review with the following sentence,
"Boy well THAT was a dissapointment"
Yes I have already seen the Pendragon version, and to be honest, I prefer it (but that's going to be another thread elsewhere).
I'll start with the good points. It's clearly got better camera work than the Pendragon version and the editting is a lot better, well, there's not so many elongated walking scenes and absolutely no dodgy random scene cuts (ala Pendragon's version).
I'm sure by no you're hoping I'd say that the martians are good (ie: better than Pendragon's) but um, sorry guys, they're not.
Ok, bad points... For the VERY few times that they're seen, the martians are 'passable' at best. In fact they're barely seen at all... By 15 minutes into the movie the world is in tatters but you barely get to see the tripod/octopod/thingwhithloadsoflegs.
The acting? Well, sure the Pendragon (that word again!) actors had too much of a propensity to adopt the acting styles of English. BBC-produced period dramas of the mid 70's but boy oh boy - the acting in this pretty much stunk in my humble opinion (Jake Busey, CT Howell, your acting talents are worthy of Amercian soap operas, nothing more). Sorry, but I really did not like the acting much at all.
As expected there were a few plot deviances but that's really not the issue - I just thought that film wasn't much cop at all. Sorry.
So, in summary then... Pretty rubbish.
I've cancelled my Amazon order and yes, I am keeping my bought copy of the Pendragon version. No, I am not on drugs.
Yours,
Dissapointed,
England
