Mr. Spielberg has stated that he did not want to make a victorian sci-fi movie, that would be his choice whether you agree with it or not.
I dont see the point in desperatly trying to bring opinion down about this project, there is an authentic version on the way after all.

Actually, you stand corrected. Since Mr. Hines has shot all the live-action shots of his authentic adaption and is editing it and is putting in the FX. So an authentic version is being made. I do not see the point to this thread. -Gnorn

I give up .. whats the bloody point OK i shall delete this thread as it serve no bloody reasonable purpose I am glad people see no point to this, perhaps i shall post a thread about the colour of TC's car or his bloody underpants as that has more relevance to this topic!!! AND AS FAR AS I CAN TELL ... NOBODY HAS YET MADE AN AUTHENTIC BLOODY VERSION ... TIM HINES FILM IS NOT YET FINISHED OR RELEASED ... WHEN I SIT MY BUM DOWN ON A CINEMA SEAT AND SEE IT .. THEN I SHALL BE CORRECTED

We'll just have to wait for July 4th I guess, before we know if Spielberg's movie is authentic or not. -Gnorn

" We'll just have to wait for July 4th I guess, before we know if Spielberg's movie is authentic or not. " At least we know that the Spielberg film will be in theaters on June 29th (Not July 4th) We do not know when we will see the Hines version, since the March 30th date looks almost impossible at this point. You cannot book theaters, advertise and market a film with less then five weeks to go, not to mention we have no real idea if the film;s post production is completed.

myself, i'm actually hoping that hines delays the release for about a year to let the SS movie blow over. it would also give hime more time to polish the CG.

I do not see the point to this thread. -Gnorn Gnorn has a very good point. As the live action has been filmed and the FX shots are near completion (we assume), it is safe to say that a (going by the statements released by Hines/Pendragon) authentic version does exsist whether or not its been viewed by the general public or edited into a complete film does not deviate away from the fact its around. I also agree that the clock is ticking, and with only a couple of minutes of footage availible to the public (eg - teaser images/footage), we are unclear as to when we will see the complete is not finished article. SS made Saving Private Ryan, the only war film that actually made me feel War is an horrendous activity rather than just thinking it.
He'll make a sh1t hot movie. Cant wait. But Id rather see Hines first.

I always wonder how much marketing is behind all this. The companies wont get much "wonga" if Tom Cruise isn't running past a huge Pepsi Cola sign, fleeing the FM's or frantically calling his wife on his brand new Motorola mobile (cell) phone! Product placement has become the norm in modern movie making. I still think Steve-o will do a good job though!

One of the best examples of blatent product placement was in the movie mission to mars in which m&m's play a big part in explaining what a DNA helix is and Dr Pepper saves the day when the ship springs a leak.
Alls said Spielberg has always been very subtle with product placement, as in its not in your face.

I agree the film will be very good, and I Will see it, but one of the problems i have with this is Tom Cruise playing the lead role ... maybe a lesser known actor would have been better Look, a percentage of the audience will be there because TC is in it (product placement ?) so money will be made purely becuse of this, I know i probably shouldn't relate him to the narrator in the book... but when I reade the book I do not picture the narrator, I have no image of him ... I certainly don't picture him as Tom Cruise, hence me saying maybe a lesser known actor , somebody we can't relate to would be better, I know what i am trying to say, It may not read like that, but to assure everybody , I am not trying to slag this production or TC, just stating an opinion Mind you I could have kicked the C**P out of TC in TOP Gun...jumped up little twerp ;D ;D

It's true that a lot of the money made will be from SS and TC. But companies will pay a huge amount of cash to get their brand or product on screen. That was what I was trying to say. You wouldn't get as much if it was a period piece. Although you might have seen an influx in sales for tweed suits and Earl Grey tea.

The thing about Cruise (if you get past the heart throb stigma) is that he does the desperate thing very well, hes good minority report as the guy on the run and is almost as good as Ethan Hunt in M.I. so in a film where he's pretty much running and being desperate all the way through I think he will do fine.
But maybe there could have been better choices out there had Cruise not been paying some of the bills
