I don't know about anyone else on here but I find this latest news a real slap in the face. I can't believe that they've got the nerve to call this film HG WELLS WAR OF THE WORLDS in America and even if Pendragons film is good now this will end up diluting any impact that it would have made.
Not only have we got Spielbergs upcoming popcorn flick travesty - complete with an ego obsessed star, but we have a diabolicaly stupid looking film with six legged fighting machines to contend with as well. Talk about confusing audiences and dumbing down Wells masterpiece.
Peter Jackson is quite rightly trying to get THE HOBBIT made before any other cheap and nasty studio can get their hands on it. If only Wells was treated with the same respect!

It's not that bad. It's better than the 1953 version. It didn't even have the fighting machines of the original novel. Consider this new Asylum version the "halfway point".

The whole point is - the more crap like this is released, the more it tarnishes HG Wells great name and turns his vision in to nothing more than a tacky B movie type thing - in the eyes of those who aren't familiar with the story.
Wells novel should be treated with the utmost of respect it deserves and not turned into B movie trash!

Thank God Asylum operates in a land where artists are free to express their vision however they want.
Let us pray...

Rusti your always going on about how PP's version of the book was a travesity and as a local yokel you had every right to be up in arms about it.
Yet you seem to be falling over yourself to back a tv movie that has about as much to do with H.G.Wells as i have i.e none.
So why the u-turn?.
Just Kurious.

ah the whinging struggles of the puritan few holding onto the coattails of a doomed vision amuse me... ;D ;D ;D Rusti since when did you stop wanting to see a proper version of the book. I thought that's what you wanted to see? I would have thought that you would have found these bastardizations annoying as well. If you want to see Woking recognised for WOTW, then Spielbergs and Asylums trash aren't going to help people recognise your home town. New York will be recognised for WOTW perhaps but Woking won't be put on the world map because of these 2 travesties. The only hope for that is Jeff Waynes film and hopefully Pendragon.

Well, I don't know about the old Rustster, but I suspect his reasons are similar to mine, to whit...
I find it quite amusing that this cheapie hack job has swooped out of nowhere, and despite being an obvious exploitation flick, it certainly doesn't appear to stray from the novel any more than Spielberg's blockbuster, and so in that context has as much right to call itself War of the Worlds as Paramount's behemoth; and at the same time, again despite its manifest cheapness, it still manages to look ten times more professional than a certain other low-budget production which is consistently defended more and more desparately by the same people who are happy to mock Asylum's effort. A slight inconsistency there, and therefore one feels honour bound to put up a mild defence, whilst still acknowledging that it's probably utter bobbins.

its just a gut feeling this film will deliver (mostly) what weve all wanted.
Fact is the dream of a high budget to the book version wont ever happen in my lifetime.
Ive resigned myself to this fact with a happy heart.
The PP version is far too cheap for my tastes, i feel that a to the book version is worthy of no less than a budget of 100 mil plus with a Director like Ridley Scott doing it. All we got i a bunch of monkeys that have ballses it all up from day one.
The SS version has p*ssed on the fact that its martians and cylinders and mars, not invasion of the lightning powered mole men.
At least this film seems as someone said 'halfway there' and at least we are getting it in the UK. PP's version (if its ever released which i doubt) will never see Blighty's shores. The WOTW: Invasion film by using the 'Invasion' title has dodged the copyright issues associated with the WOTW name.
Those are my reasons.
The proper version... that dream is dead, time to look for a new one.

C'mon Rusti, I can almost guarantee this version won't satisfy you as well and even though it might have one or two elements from the book - it's still not the book. Nowhere near it and it's cheapening HG Wells great novel. Woking won't even get a mention. Same with Spielbergs nonsense. The only hope for that is by a miracle Pendragon or the obvious one - Jeff Wayne. Wells and Woking deserve better than this crap!

Actually its JW version i have the greatest faith in. Same with me. Whilst I would really like Pendragon to come up with the goods - Jeff's is the only one I have any faith in at the moment.
