All fellow WOTW dislikers - let's not gloat about the fact that Spielbergs crummy so-called adaptation of Wells book was snubbed by the biggest award ceremony of them all and King Kong was awarded 3 Oscars.
Let's also not gloat about Cruise winning the most tiresome tabloid target at the Razzies or the fact that he was quite rightfully nominated for worst actor.
This is a time for reflection and for forgiveness and ........................................oh sod it......let's throw a party!

So Fallingstar, is there a point to this, or is this just another random trolling?
And before you start tossing your typical "What am I not allowed to voice my opinion?" slag around, let me clear the air. YES you can voice your opinon. YES you are allowed to be as angry about this film as you want...And NO none of us can stop you from posting on the forums (unfourtunately).
But, having said all that, I have to say that YOU are one of the primary reasons I dont post here as much as I used to. No one can start a reasonable dicussion on this board (At least in the paramount section) without you slagging off about how bad you hate tom cruise or how bad you hate this movie.
You hate it, happy day, you think its the worst movie ever, YAY for you. But seriously, do you have to start troll posts (or worse yet, hijack other peoples post with your constant whining) to be happy?
The movie may not have lived up to our hopes and dreams (for some of us it may have been just as bad as pentimbo's travesty). But that doesnt mean we want to continually hear how bad you hate it. There are plenty of other things to post about on this board, AND many other things within this part of the board to talk about. The special effects in this movie, wether you thought the movie itself was good or not, were VERY good. Fantastic as a matter of fact. There is no denying that. To gloat because a well deserving movie (in the catagories listed at least, Special effects and sound editing and what not) lost awards that it deserved (Im not saying King Kong didnt deserve them though) is childish.
And, as for Mr. Cruise, what did that man ever do to you, because you sure hate him alot for a man you never met...

Don't worry, Leatherhead. It won't be that bad. These two are always at it. It'll pass. As for the topic, frankly I never expected WotW to get any Oscars and I'd be surprised if anyone else really did. Summer blockbuster movies usually don't win much... except perhaps best FX or music. With Kong around and John Williams past his sell-by date, Worlds was hardly likely to bag one of those now, was it? That's quite apart from the fact that it was terribly rushed and it shows. I don't suppose TC and SS will be crying into their piles of cash over it though. I don't intend to hold it against them forever... life's too short. But it'd be nice to think that HG might be waiting to have a choice word or two when they eventually get chauffered through the pearly gates. If there was an Oscar for ' Best fairly good but could have been better sci-fi film loosely based on an old book' it may have won that, I suppose.

Yeah, I think most people agree the tripods were great. But I think that if they'd spent as much care as they did on those on the rest of the film it could have been something special rather than just an ok sci fi flick.

I have just read the book again after along a long spell .it was on loan to a friend. And it just reinforced my opinion of a wasted opportunity by all the versions we have been presented with. But unlless there is some eccentric millionare out there who feels the same... were doomed..

Armored I've written a song just for you [ based on the old rock n roll tune ] It's called Jungle [ WOTW isn't very good ] Rock. [ It helps if you wear an ape suit whilst singing it! ] I was walkin through the jungle just the other night When I came across a film it was mainly pretty sh*te Cruise and his ego tryin to act Apart from the tripods - the film was pretty crap T'was a jungle jungle - Ego trip rock A jungle jungle - Ego trip rock Huge great plot holes but Spielberg don't care Cos this films about Cruise and his slick lookin hair Who cares about Wells, his fans or his books As long as women worship - Cruise and his looks [ lucky swine ] T'was a jungle jungle - Ego trip Rock! A jungle jungle - Ego trip rock P.S. the whole point of this thread was so I could post this masterpiece of a song [ it will surely win a prize ] and yes the special effects were very good if not much else was.

Yeah, thats what I was trying to hint at. The special effects were what this film was nominated for. I feel sorry for those fellas who worked hard on making the tripods look great.
Cruise and SS werent up for nominations for this film. And I am almost willing to bet that all the bad press Tom has gotten with the media had a bit to do with the Academy not awarding any awards to WotW. Not saying that there are NO other reasons, but Hollywood IS that biased and assanine.

If there was an Oscar for ' Best fairly good but could have been better sci-fi film loosely based on an old book' it may have won that, I suppose. I actually 'did' expect this film to win quite a few Oscars - not because I thought it was any good but because I thought that Spielberg and Cruise were a bit chummy with some of the people high up in Oscar town - if you know what I mean. Especially as Cruise and Spielberg read out the Oscar results for LOTR. I thought that was a foretaste of things to come with their WOTW. Obviously they didn't have quite as much influence as I thought though. When you say summer blockbuster movies don't win much - well that's definitely true. I'm a bit of a Star Wars fan and I would never expect those films to be nominated in anything other than technical or musical categories etc, as those films are what they are and most people realise that. I think most of us can agree though that an adaptation of Wells book should be something a bit special - not just an average [ or below average ] star driven summer blockbuster like we got. That's one huge problem with this film.

Not saying that there are NO other reasons, but Hollywood IS that biased and assanine. Well I personally don't think that Cruise's behaviour influenced things much at all - I think the academy just thought - typical sci fi summer blockbuster with a typical action type - hugely famous star and nothing special. I do feel sorry for the effects guys myself and I wouldn't dream of saying what they did was substandard [ and I never have done ] as they did an exemplary job but I think the fact that Kong was nominated for 3 Oscars just shows that if it wasn't for the serious arty films up for best picture - Kong could well have been up for best picture too. The academy were obviously impressed with it and saw fit to give it quite a few of the remaining awards
