Did anyone notice missing scenes in the wide screen DVD release. Example, The part when Ray picks up the piece of glass or rock and says its freezing. Or "we only have 60 seconds" (part when they were walking from there house to the van. These are small parts that seem to be misplaced pieces of dialogue that saw no explanation in the movie. Probably a last minute re-edit to refine it for the dvd release. There were also scenes that were added. Example, part when in the van and crowd attacks Rachel does her "this your space" arms folded exercise. There are various POV scenes that are barely noticible.
This is kind of disturbing because it makes you wonder why they decided to do re-edit for the dvd release. I can understand if it was edited for TV, but for a dvd? Also makes you wonder what other movies get hacked in such a fashion that is barely noticible.

What DVD do you have? My DVD (US collector's edition) still has those scenes.

I was watching the special features on the second disc and they mentioned that they actually shot the famous "camelot" scene where tripods pull apart houses looking for people. Sounds like it got canned at the last minute. You can even see the CGI for it.

Why is it called the "camelot" scene?

Apparently it had something to do with the lighting for the scene. Just read it somewhere and saw the actual pre-rendered footage in the extras.
