Today is the first day of selling them in Walmart. They have two versions. No I don't mean the Widescreen or 4:3 but they have just the DVD for $15 and one with a bonus disc for $20 which I almost missed. It's just the HBO special behind the scenes but I decided to get it so I have everything as you can't exactly buy it separately.

Timeship, here's a question you may be able to answer... Over in the states, how popular are widescreen TVs? I ask because, over here, most new DVDs come out only in widescreen format, whereas over there I believe most come out in both widescreen and 4:3 Fullscreen versions. I have a few region 1 dvds also that have double sided discs (also not a regular occurence here) that have a Widescreen print on one side and Fullscreen on the other. Any idea why this is?

Well You can certainly see plenty of widescreen TV's in the stores. I am not sure how popular they are as I don't know that many who have one yet. I certainly have no plans to replace mine anytime soon although when they start phasing out analog TV (actually not that far away now) I may use that as an excuse to do so, rather than buy a digital Tuner separately.
I think the DVD formats are similar in distribution here. When DVD's first came out, they tended to come out in both formats but now I think most are in widescreen format, which is why I was surprised to see 2 different screen formats for this movie. Most are in widescreen format.
I also have some that are double sided (The black hole, Forbidden Planet) and I am sure I have even had at least one where you could choose the format from the menu.

So the question is, do you have a widescreen TV and how popular (or not) are they in the UK?

Yes I have one.. I've had it for a few years in fact. Widescreen TV's are very popular here.. I don't know many people who still have the old style. This is probably helped by the fact that some channels on digital satellite and cable (particularly the terrestrial channels) broadcast in widescreen anyway.

What about High Definition TV? It's a big deal here, although I don't know many personally who have one yet although I did help a friend choose one when her TV broke. It's still a 4:3 set though as she didn't want a widescreen and was just looking for an affordable replacement. The picture quality is much better though.
You also have to remember that where I am is not very representative of the country as whole though.
