Its what many of us was hoping for, but we are to be let down.
A friend of mine 2 nights ago had the chance to view a advance copy of Spielbergs War Of The Worlds and sad to say the released film does not contain ANY extra added scenes.
The DVD was that of the single disc release and NOT that of the "Special Edition" which could contain deleated scenes as seperates but the list of DVD contents does not mention this, neither trailors for that matter.

Not that I care about it, but they're bound to release one with deleted scenes somewhere along the line.

Just a thought...
Maybe Spielberg saw reaction to the Pendragon release and decided that all true WOTW fans hate scenes of people walking. SO... he cut out all scenes of Cruise or anyone else walking anywhere. That would explain the shorter than expected film with no real "Dead London" part (Cruise and Fanning would have had to walk) and why there are no deleted scenes mentioned in the Collectors DVD release.
Again, just a thought...

They'll be there in one version or another. They are just working on ways to separate you from your hard-earned with various incarnations.

I've heard a rumour that one of the deleted scenes will be Cruise giving a lecture on 'how to be a great dad' right at the end of the film and then he thankfully gets zapped by a tripod.

[glow=purple,2,300]This month's DVD review has a damn fantastic cover of SSs tripods, and a review of the double disc edition. Sadly, there's no mention on the features about any deleted scenes.
I won't be buying the DVD until I know they have the deleted scenes on. I'm happy to wait for the Ultimate Special Extended Limited Collectors Directors cut...in 3D, preferably![/glow]

I wonder if the DVD will have a docu containing footage of Cruise, Koepp and Spielberg in preparing the script, laughing and shaking their heads as they tear out pages and scribble most of the remaining passages out of the original novel...

I bought the DVD in Japan on Friday. I can confirm that there are NO deleted scenes on the two disc release, unless they're contained as a very well hidden easter egg. A few very brief snippets of the 'tripods pulling people from houses' scene is contained in the 'Tripods and Aliens' featurette though.

I'll just have to wait for the Collectors edition... and just hope that the Dehydration Ray isn't replaced by intergalactic mobile phones! [/glow]

I'll need to watch the tripods and aliens feature again to look for that extra bit.
No movie trailers on the 2 disk version either...

No trailors. If we were to believe the DVD I dont think any were ever made Those extra scenes in the Aliens/Tripod featurette are just pre-viz stuff. You get to see a couple of scenes which would have looked nice in the film, the Tripod reaching into a house window, a group of tripods walking over the town, tripods walking up a street and a single tripod walking up a street - all sadly as pre-viz.

The first thing my wife said when she saw no deleted scenes was that she bets there will be another release. She got caught out with LOTR in that they released another 'better' version soon afterwards. Needless to say we didn't buy it and it will be the same with this. If they release a better version I doubt I'll buy it as the movie is enough for me. The novelty of the deleted scenes wears of very quickly. I can't see what other stuff they can include that would make me buy it again as this one includes the Tripod and Alien design featurette at least.
I personally think it would be better to release two versions simultaneously ie the standard and collectors edition. That way, those who just wanna pay $15 for the film can do so, and those who want to pay $5-$10 more for the collectors edition will think "well it's only a little bit extra so I might as well" rather than "what another $25 to but the movie again just to get a few extras!"
But then I guess they must have paid lots of money for psychology research and worked out they can get more money the current way.
