REGION ONE (U.K) DVD RELEASE - November 14th 2005

Paramount Pictures version of Steven Spielbergs War Of The Worlds will be hitting U.K shop shelfs on November 14th in both single disc and two disc "Special Edition" versions.

The 2 disc set (seen below) will be priced at £24.99 (no price given for single disc) and includes on disc 2 a huge array of WOTW stuff that will please many if not all.

The single disc version features the burning planet and alien hand.



The 2 disc set will include:

Disc One

War Of The Worlds in Anamorphic Widescreen with English DD2.0 Stereo, DD5.1 & DTS 5.1 Surround, French DD5.1 Surround and optional English, French, Spanish, German and Italian subtitles.

Revisiting The Invasion

Marking their second film collaboration, Spielberg and Cruise recount their on-set experiences and reveal their approach to telling the personal story at the heart of this epic odyssey.

The H.G. Wells Legacy

A portrait of the acclaimed author with accounts from his family, Spielberg and War of the Worlds screenwriter David Koepp exploring the legacy of H.G. Wells’ classic novel from its initial conception through its various adaptations.

Steven Spielberg And The Original War Of The Worlds

Paying homage to the original film in his own adaptation of the H.G. Wells book, Spielberg invited Gene Barry and Ann Robinson, the stars of the original 1953 film, to make a cameo appearance in War of the Worlds. In this program, Barry and Robinson share their experiences -- past and present -- of filming H.G. Wells’ epic story of alien invasions.

Characters: The Family Unit

Spielberg and Cruise discuss the emotional core of the film: the Ferrier family portrayed by Cruise (Ray Ferrier), Fanning (Rachel Ferrier), Chatwin (Robbie Ferrier) and Otto (Mary Ann, Ray’s ex-wife).

Pre-Visualization

A rare look at Spielberg in pre-production as he designs the film’s action sequences on computer through a process called “pre-visualization,” in which traditional storyboards are animated into 3D digital sequences that depict not only what a scene will look like, but reveal every aspect of a given location, including sets, actors, cameras and crew.

Production Diaries: East Coast

Viewers join the cast and crew on a whirlwind shooting tour of the Eastern Seaboard from Newark and Bayonne to Brooklyn, up the Hudson to Naugatuck, Connecticut, and onto Athens, New York, and ending in eastern Virginia. The diary is in two parts, one highlighting the beginning of the invasion and the second following the Ferrier family into exile.

Production Diaries: West Coast

After a Christmas break, the cast and crew are back on the West Coast for more action filming on dozens of practical locations, as well as six stages spread over three studio lots. This production diary focuses first on the alien destruction and second on the ensuing all-out war between humans and aliens.

Designing The Enemy: Tripods And Aliens

Spielberg and his collaborators discuss the ground-breaking design of his aliens, their machines, and the challenges in bringing H.G. Wells’ vision to life.

Scoring War Of The Worlds

Spielberg and John Williams discuss the score to the film, their 21st collaboration.

We Are Not Alone

Spielberg and his stellar cast and crew offer their closing thoughts about the experience of making War of the Worlds.

No deleted scenes?

I dont imagine anyone being happy about that...

While the other extras are good, I think the real meat for me buying this DVD would be the cut scenes... but if their not on it, I really dont think Id bother.

Also, I hope the feature on designing the aliens, since I will probally end up watching the DVD if I dont buy it, at least features concept art for designs that wernt used.


A more comprehensive full version, like the Lord of the Rings four disc edition, just packed onto two disc would be better for this film... complete with gallaries and the like.


But, its a strong package, if not a superb one.

That list above is NOT complete. You will notice that it does not mention trailors, photo gallery (just to name a couple) though we will get some. Were still too early yet to receive the full list, so who knows what will come through over the next few weeks.

It's a pity the covers aren't the other way round. I will probably get the two disc edition but I prefer the 'hand' artwork' which will be on the single disc.

Bet the HG Wells documentary will only be on the UK edition and not on the US edition and it will be the shortest bit on the dvd. I think I'll skip the sickening sounding 'family unit' bit.

This is a one hour docu about how they heard of someone called H.G.Wells, though they did mistaken it to that of Orson Welles, because it was HE who invented this astounding story and this odd Englishman stole his name and changed it slightly - of course ahead of his time. Then it goes on about how one day they were walking past a bookshop and saw a copy of The War Of The Worlds in the window, thought "hmmmmm nice title for a film", got back home, remembered some of the title, just the War Of The Worlds bit, made it into a film, and at the premire suddenly remembered that they forgot to go back to that very bookshop and buy the book to read.

Oooops, was I speaking outload then ;D

Maybe the documentary is really called 'The Orson Welles Legacy'. If you strain hard enough you might just catch a tiny glimpse of some silly little Englishman called I think his name is HG Wells who wrote a quaint story about some quaint Martians in their quaint tripods - which wouldn't make a very good film incidently.

I've changed my mind. I can't wait to see and hear the best part of the dvd - 'The family unit' bit.

Im quite looking forward to the DVD (2 disc), but some of that is entwined with my hopes for the snacking tripods scene that is rumoured to be making an appearance.

After giving alot of thought to how I see this film, ive decided that its mainly with my eyes. Its not the film it could have been by a long shot, but its still a good film.

Hello folks, I work offshore on an oilrig and every month we get a box of hire dvds from a specialised rental place from which we keep the movies for a month. Now alot of the time the rental place we get the movies from get new releases about a month before they hit the shops (dont worry, its all lagit!) and we happen to have a rental copy of SS WOTW here which i watched last night, this is the exact version that will hit the rental stores, and unfortunatly there arre NO deleted scenes at all on this movie, its strait from the cinema onto dvd.
Sorry to break the bad news folks.
