Some weeks ago, whilst browsing, I came upon this odd little image of the Martians, from a Portugese site (which, with typical thoroughness, I neither bookmarked nor documented, and which I now can't find): Utterly obscure, it's the only time I've seen it. Until just now, when I found an image of a little model on a Japanese site, here: It's available here, under 'Space Black Series' about two-thirds of the way down the page - bizarrely, there's a purple version available too! www.clawmarktoys.com/mini-index.htmlI recommend a good browse, there's some barmy stuff there...!

I think they are wellsian martians, standing upright on the surface of Mars. I once saw a book about Wells with a martian on the front wich looked EXACTLY like these ones.
I think they are pretty good.

yeah i think you're right. i forgot the earth's atmosphere wasnt totally suitable for the martians, it made them sluggish, so they were probably able to do this on mars.

[glow=red,2,300]Uh, if you ask me, they, uh, kind of look pretty freaky standing upright too. *gulp* I thought the only thing stopping me from freezing up (when seeing one of these buggers for real) would be the fact that I was taller than it. Remember that Burton said "A huge, rounded bulk, larger than a bear," I hope it's only a canadian black bear or something! I'd hate to have that thing looking down on me! ahem. But, yes. Cool looking. I don't think I've ever seen someone portraying the Martians 'standing up' on Mars before. Curious. Here are the purple ones: Hey, aren't these the mini-toys that they sell from vending machines in Japan? (you know they also sell pets from those things!)[/glow]

Some weeks ago, whilst browsing, I came upon this odd little image of the Martians, from a Portugese site (which, with typical thoroughness, I neither bookmarked nor documented, and which I now can't find): You still got it saved on your HD? Maybe if you look at the properties of the file, it gives you the URL ? (at least it works this way with a Mac) -Gnorn

Ta for the suggestion Gnorn, but sadly I have a scummy laptop of the evil Gatesian Windows variety, so no luck there...

To bad...
But if you have the original file on your HD, maybe try Google to search for the file name? I know it's a long shot, but who knows?

Problem is, so many image files that I save have file names that only mean anything to their creator that I often rename them, as I did with this one. I've tried searching again, using the Portuguese for War of the Worlds among other things, but to no avail so far... Ah well.

If you ask me they look very much like the martians from Metal Slug that Big Red has for his avatar. I think they look great.

[glow=red,2,300]If I recall the range that they come from also has the planet Mars (on a very different scale of course) which would look nice sitting behind them on a shelf. [/glow]

I like that word, oddity, it's a funny little word. Those martian models are scarier looking than the spielberg ones were. I've been on the website of the makers, I have seen the star trek models before but was impressed by the planets with the satelites on them.
