There's a bit of debate on various sites currently about Jeff Wayne's movie so I thought I'd see what the people here think. You'll probably know that Jeff is aiming for a faithful adaption of the novel and using the album tunes as a soundtrack, possibly in an orchestral form. Are you one of those who would prefer to just have the album with CGI visuals (basically a pop video) or do you agree that the novel story retaining some elements of Jeff's work is the way to go?

To be very honest: I think he should follow the original novel (including faithfull Tripods) and use his music as a soundtrack...

I choose the album as Jeff Wayne did the album and the film will be Jeff Wayne's spin on H.Gs story. Would look a bit odd wouldn't it if the film title went something like Jeff Wayne's Version Of H.G. Wells The War Of The Worlds.

Coming to think of it, copyright rears its ugly head again here.
It's just dawned on me, but if Jeff owns the rights to a 'musical' and not to a film, and baring in mind that he has had to obtain permission from Paramount to go ahead with a film project - as Paramount own the rights to a film version - does this mean that Jeff (not wanting to step on Para's toes) have to produce a film 'musical' and not a straight forward movie?, meaning that Jeff's film has to be a musical.

Novel! Novel! Novel!
I like the idea of it being a book adaption not a 'music video'.

Musical for me, I wanna see the musical come to life visually, like HC said, JW's War of the Worlds isnt the novel, its JW's version.

If Jeff Wayne is in charge he has to use his music. He's a musician first and foremost. And any chance of a limited cinema run ? To see and hear it in a full digital sound cinema would be something.
Let us just hope in a few years time a (British ?) movie director will film the novel and give it the respect it deserves.

He will be using his music but it might [ I hope ] be an orchestral soundtrack based on the tunes from the album. And this IS supposed to be a cinema film isn't it. If Sony pictures are behind Jeffs film then that should give it fairly wide distribution

I think Jeffs our ONLY hope for a big screen adaptation for a long, long time - that's one of the reasons why I don't want to see a 2hr long rock video.

[glow=Purple,2,300]I vote for both!
I reckon Jeff & MediaStation should expand the tour CGI into a complete visual interpretation of the album as a separate 'angle' on the Tour DVD
Once the Tour DVD is complete, Jeff & EnviousEyes can then concentrate on doing the movie of the book augmented by Jeff's music (sans Martian prologue, and the NASA epilogue replaced with the book ending).
Best of both 'worlds'![/glow]

Not a pop video. I'd like to see the book portrayed on screen reasonably faithfully with JW's music. However, I would still quite like to see some of JW's own little additions, such as Beth, left in the movie too - in my mind she's part of the JW WotW universe too.

I hope mostly based off the novel. With a fairly orchestrative approach to the album.

I'm with you Fallingstar! I don't think that Jeff Wayne would want to dissapoint us by turning something out that we hated.
Seeing as we're all saying we hope that the movies turns out this way, turns out that way, etc - why don't directors have formus and things set up to ask us what we would like in a movie?
