The track that always gets my hairs to stand up on end is the music from Dead London!
I've listened to the, you can call it instrumental version, of Dead London on ULLAdubULLA.
But the NASA ending does the same a bit I think...
What's your most scarry track?

I really like the sound of the cylinder opening with the bass in the background. But I think I would vote for Dead London too.

Horsell Common and the Heat Ray. It's my favourite track anyway and it's good and dramatic, conveying well the terror that is faced by those on the common.

Horsell Common and the Heat Ray for me as well. Something about the Santur and Zither work by George Fenton, always strikes an eerie chord within me when I hear it.

Horsell common and the heat ray. The music just has a lovely eerie feel to it.

'Artillery man and the fighting machine' for me. ;D I like the "ulla" and the sounds of the heat ray. But, 'Thunderchild' is a favourite as well. ;D Only I can't vote for two.

This is a difficult one. My scariest moment is at the end of 'Thunderchild' after the piece of narration about the sky being full of cylinder following cylinder, which is then followed by the sound of Martian machinery and a truiphant 'ULLA!'. However, track itself is not for the most part that spooky.
So now I'm split between the two Red Weeds, the slow crawling synth effects certainly make my flesh creep, and they vividly envoke the vision of a familiar landscape made alien by a pityless invader. I'll go for red weed part two, there's the eerie sounds of the red weed combined with the most terrifying part of the book working together to create a moment of mind-crushing terror (It also has Phil Lynott's incredible scream in it too).

I'm in agreement with you Stewymartian about the end of 'Thunderchild' and the final Martian 'ULLA!'. To me it is one of the spookiest moments. But I think some of the lyrics in 'Thunderchild' also rasied a few hairs on the back of my neck.

Horsell Common and the Heat Ray for me- plus The Eve Of The War. It's the anticipation. Also, the music sound effects behind many passages here are fairly alien and creepy. The scariest bits for me are from "from the railway I heard the sound of shunting trains- softened into melody by the distance" and "it all seemed so safe and tranquil".
Eeeeeeee!

Dead London: The shear suspense of hearing that horrible, alien & unearthly howl, but not spotting the Martians immediately

At the moment it's The Spirit of Man. Julie Covington singing "No Nathaniel" gives me shivers and goosebumps at the same time!

Also Spirit of Man/Red Weed (part ll). Again, its that suspense thing - in their 'dark & dusty prison' & the manner of the Parsons death

Difficult one this. Again, Dead London was really creepy, especially when the painful "Ullas" kick in... Then Horsell Common & The Heat Ray with the opening of the cylinder... Overall I think the first phase of "The Red Weed" beats them both for me, marginally. The musical soundscape Jeff managed to cunjure up here was hugely creepy and genuinely makes my skin crawl listening to it...just like the crawling of the weed tendrils I suppose ;D A final mention for the closing section of "Spirit of Man" when the martian investigates the house and collects the parson's body...more suitably creepy accompanying music here. Does anyone here think that Eve of War is Scarry/Eerire/Spooky?
First time I heard it I thought that it was.

Um, I think it's 'Horsell Common' for me. I remember being scared of that track when I was little. My Dad made me and my brother listen to the album in the dark on Halloween when we were about 7 or 8. Terrifies me still!!!!

Dead London for me... So beautifully written, it chugs along slowly and sounds like it really ties in with what is happening in the story. Jeff shows him musical knowledge in bringing the haunting feel to the song, the feeling of dispair.. and when the dying Ullas kick in, you can feel the martians pain. Superbly written!
