Hi guys, Guess what I just stumbled across? Some new pics from the WOTW set. They show a lots of different things, including a saucer-shaped object which could be either a flying martian machine or possible the top of a martian tripod? Beware possible spoliers, I haven't looked through them all yet, as I dont want to stumble across something which should be kept for the first viewing of the film! There are some great new shots of the crashed aeroplane too! Check it out: www.brecourtmanor.com/WOW/

Fair play dude those pics are ace!
I have a theory, maybe the scene were Cruise is trapped in a house when a cylinder hits it is actualy a scene were a plane crashes and a tripod stands out side plucking survivors from the wreckage putting them into the baskets.

A martian basket? Could you explain that to me? In the book the martains hunt men and put them into baskets to consume later as food (they drain the blood from living men and inject it into their own veins) notive the top of those baskets has a hole big enough to drop a human into. If you check the credits you will see a guys role is "man in basket"

Oh yeah, thats a pretty good theory, I remember reading another discussion on Spielberg's WOTW on a different forum, and the use of cages or baskets to "pick" humans came up, as food perhaps?
And if that's true, then maybe the martians become infected by US specifically? That's an interesting thought.

Thats how its put accross in the book, we humans are riddled with germs and diseases we are immune to, once the martians have a bite to eat they sign their death warrant.
Theres a bit in the book were the Narrator watches a lad drained and killed in a martian pitt, in the SS version Cruise may be in that house under the plane wreckage watching a tripod martian feed from those baskets.

Ah I see, I must re-read the book then, its been a few years! If that saucer shaped thing is a basket, then Spielberg is certainly being as faithful as he can, within the modern setting, to Well's vision!

just a possibility, but that 'basket' might just be the framework for some other model that hasn't been skinned yet

just a possibility, but that 'basket' might just be the framework for some other model that hasn't been skinned yet They wouldnt make a framwork out of solid steel, its usualy wood and fibre glass, they look like baskets to me, they are "designed" to look like cages with a hole in the top. Why go to all the trouble of that curved design if it was only going to be covered up?

If you look the "baskets" has a swirly design giving them a 'wicker' effect, genius.

The cage thing:
either:
A martian basket, chassis for fighting machine model or cylinder.
me thinks the first.

Yes, definately 'fishermens baskets'. If you look at the pictures you can see industrial spray cans. My guess is they are hoisting them up on a frame to paint them with some lovely chrome effect paint! ;D

A martian basket? Could you explain that to me? Next time you go into Sainburys, ASDA or Wallmart ask for one.

Look its Tom Cruise's Mustang. Does that mean Cruise will only get chased by a falling bridge but by a falling Plane aswell.

Well spotted Anthony, but the car may be parked with Cruise inside the house, when the plane hits he is trapped inside, a fighting machine must be out side which will give us the Narrator/Curate scene from the book. They must have changed it from a cylinder because the SS cylinders make too much damage on impact for anyone to survive near it.

I actually got it from a subscribers only website in which movie "insiders" seem to stop by occasionally. Anthony is right about the Mustang, though its anyone's guess how Tom escapes that one. But that basket has definately given me hope Spielberg is going all-out with the gore AND keeping to Well's vision.
