Dear War of the Worlds fans

I’ll get straight to the point.

After careful consideration for many months I have decided to close the doors to future posts on War of the Worlds online.

It’s an old story but I started War of the Worlds Online as a hobby over 4 years ago slowly but surely it grew into an active War of the Worlds community. The War of the Worlds movies appeared and interest in the story rocketed as did the membership of this site, however for the past year membership has decreased and posting has dropped. I feel now is a good time to put War of the Worlds online to bed, long before the next round of War of the Worlds incarnations.

There is also a personal side to my decision. I am finding that being in charge of the site is affecting my real life and also my job, these two things have to be my priority. This hobby has turned into something bigger than I ever imagined and I no longer feel I have the motivation to see War of the Worlds online into future incarnations of War of the Worlds.

We all know that War of the Worlds can often be a very hot topic and discussions and events that I could never have envisioned happening, have happened, and I no longer feel I have the ability to deal with them.

I hope that you all take this decision well, please know that I have not taken this decision lightly, and that I do not plan to deleted the forum simply lock it to new posts. I will also be clearing out posts that are older than 18 months.

I hope the end of War of the Worlds Online encourages people to start new forums, I will be happy to put links to them on this page, and indeed join them as a member, if I am welcome.

A million thank you’s to all of you who have posted over the years, especially the old guard and the moderators. I’d like to give a special thanks to Tony (aka evilnerfherder), you have been a good friend and a massive help over the years.

I am sure there will be much frustration at my decision, please remember that it’s not the site that makes a community it’s the members.

Whilst I respect Rob's decision to shut the board, I have said to him that I feel we should keep the community together in some way. I'd miss all you horrible lot. So, I am proposing that I set up a new board and hope you will all come along and be members there just as you have stuck with this site over the years. The moderating team will be the same and I'll try and keep it to the format you all know and love here. I hope I can count on your support.
I will begin work straight away and hope to have something up by the weekend. I will post the addy here and I hope to see you all there.

I'll chip in all I can to help Tony get the new site up and running and resume a normal-ish service!

I'd just like to say thanks to Rob, Tony and everyone else on here for making this such a great and close community over the years. I hope everyone sticks around and joins the new site as soon as its up and running.

Thanks Reppu. This community really has been something special... which is why I feel that this doesn't need to be the end... it can be a new beginning. The new site should be up over the weekend, I should think so keep watching this space!

I think what is needed is to expand out from WOTW with the new forum, a lot of us are musically minded or love art and stuuf. and like other shows like space 1999 and so on. You get the idea, make the forum more than WOTW but keep WOTW the central part.

It's a shame to see the forum close, but I agree that itis more important to focus on your life and job.

I would just like to say thank you, Rob, for creating such a great littleplace for us all here. And thank you to the mods, and all the other members here, for making this little community so friendly. ^^

Yeah Rob has done a brill job, but WOTW has run its course apart from JW new versions and its time to expand out. Rob you done good but it time to look out for yourself.

Yes ALL members here will be welcome to my new site and whilst it will be a war of the worlds site I will be branching it out to include other sci fi and horror too. I have some good ideas, and all of your input when things get started will be most welcome.
