I don't play action games. Generally speaking I play only grand strategy games on my Windows platform, particularly Civilization II and Master of Orion II. Recently I've started playing Alpha Centauri also. Not a new game but it's new for me. I've occasionally played story-telling games (so-called "role-playing games" but that's a misnomer), but those have little if any repeat play value.

At the moment I'm playing Oblivion: Elderscrolls IV, it's amazing, graphics are awesome and it's very addictive.
It has that 'just one more go' feel to it. ;D

When I'm not playing the fool (geddit? groan.), I'm still currently ensconced in my retro marathon in the N64. Just completed Shadows Of The Empire (only man in the universe to LIKE that game!), and am now bedded firmly down in the best FPS ever, Goldeneye. Like being ten years younger. Mind you, I'd better stop and leave the house soon. Starting to develop an aversion to light. And I need more beer...

Tomb Raider: Legend- bought it on Saturday, played it on 'difficult' and finished it on Sunday.
WHY ARE SO MANY OF THESE GAMES SO SHORT THESE DAYS? If I hadn't bought a preowned (I can see why) copy for a fiver less than a brand new copy bought online, I would probably have taken it back myself.
As for the game- some lovely moments- but many very frustrating bits that have to be repeated over and over again (I swore a lot this weekend- though I tend to rant at most games at some point!). Far to much running around shooting things instead of exploration and puzzle solving and often the levels are very, very dark making it hard to spot what you have to do. Bonus content iffy- the usual 'unlock models from each level that you can then view and rotate in a smallish box onscreen' thing and unlocking different costumes Lara can wear on replays of the game- the only things adding to longevity are the replay value to find all the hidden 'rewards' (gold silver and bronze objects hidden around the room)- therefore unlocking said rewards, time-trial replays of the levels you will have done at least once with rather tight time limits and the obligatory chance to mooch around Croft Manor- with more reward hunting.
The above said, at least they've updated the movement and, apart from the frustrating 'difficult' bits where Lara sometimes doesn't seem to respond so well, it is lften a pleasure leaping and swinging about again- takes me back years.
So- verdict? Definitely worth playing- but don't get your hopes up too much and don't pay full whack for it unless you've got lots of dosh (which you could save and send to me instead!).

AVP is fantastic. And when I got my Apple G4 and ran it with a res of 1280x1024 instead of 800/600 on the G3, it looked astounding! The bonus levels are bloody hard too! And nothing compares with towering over a terrified wreck as the alien and then biting their head off!
AVP2 is also awesome- though somehow not quite as scary as the first in as many places. Possibly the cartoon feel, though I do love the idea of starting as a face hugger and working your way through the different stages of the Alien's life-cycle- a great idea. The face-huggers in the first AVP had me leaping away from the screen in fright many a time- I had to play it in small doses and only rarely in the dark- It's astounding that a game really can have that effect!
I'm now working through Tomb Raider: Legend to find all the secret 'rewards'-though different costumes and viewing/rotating the game models strike me as filler rather than a real value adder.... (or is that viper?!)
I'd like to play Black for the pure violence and I really want to get Civilisation III Complete on my Mac- I really miss that game, plus World of Warcraft (I have the minimum spec for this), but I know with both of these games that I'll lose so much time and I have much to achieve this year! I may reaload Oolite though- a shareware redux of Elite- sheer nostalgia joy! Oh- and I've still to buy a GameCube with the Zelda games and Rogue Squadron. I must have more Zelda!
I've also been recommended Psychonauts as a top game- often in the sales too.
AND i want to build a top spec Windows PC to play Crysis when it turns up- looks awesome but heavy on the hardware.
So I don't want much then! ;D
