Hi all,
I've found a review on Rexthestrange.com (http://www.rexthestrange.com/review.asp). In this review they critisize the clothing in the movie, saying the costumes were from a 20 year time range. They got this e-mail, that shows us a independent view on the matter. It seems that Pendragon did there best to make a good movie and on a VERY small budget. I do not want to deny that Hines promised us things he would never deliver, but it shows that the people involved did there best. This is the e-mail:
Text of the email sent to Rex complaining about the costuming grade of The War of the Worlds
Mr. Strange,
I am writing in regards to your review of War of the Worlds. First of all, I appreciate most of what you say, and thank you for seeing the film for what it is! As you point out, most of the bad-mouthers just don't get it, and so obviously haven't read the book!
Unfortunately, I did not see your review before the grade was changed. I also read the review which mentioned a man's wife who said the costumes were not accurate, and were from a 20 year time range. I truly HOPE that her comments alone are not what made you change the grade! ? (20 years is not so bad! How many people nowadays still have 80's items in their closet? I see it all the time!) This woman may know a little bit about clothing history, but has she ever tried to obtain authentic Victorian clothing for hundreds on a shoe string budget? I doubt it!!!
My daughters are the costumers for Pendragon, and I know how much time they spent researching, creating, and searching for the correct period clothing! On practically ZERO budget, and very tight time frame, they dressed more than 100 people in Victorian clothing! I think they did an excellent job, with what they were given to work with.
Pendragon has a link to some of their research sources on their website. They DID their homework! Regardless of what many say, War of the Worlds was made with sincere effort and was only forced to be rushed by outside influences. The whole Pendragon story is quite interesting. Thank you for seeing a part of the real side of the story!
Sincerely,
(name deleted) Return to rexthestrange.com
I think that the writer of this e-mail got a point.

Interesting...
Although one of Pentimbo's strongest critics, I don't actually have anything against the individuals who worked on Timmy's film - I'm sure they did their best. I don't even actually have much time for some of the nitpicking comments that have been made about clothing, guns, etc., as some of those comments are themselves rooted in inaccuracies.
However, the point is that Timmy himself had promised everyone over a period of several years that he was making a lavish, spectacular, accurate, and faithful professional-standard film.
He did not deliver.
Furthermore, had he not BSed for so many years (and continued to do so, stirring things up with his absurd conspiracy theories and whining self-justifications), he would not have earned the utterly justified opprobrium he has done.

I'm not saying that Tim Hinds didnt try his best. Its far better than i could ever do and hes had a chance that many of us here could never do.
Its what he said surrounding the case that has got up my nose.

Like Rusti, I have nothing against Timbo for the movie itself, it was seemingly a sincere effort that just happened to go wrong on a fair few levels, whatever the reasons behind it were. I just think that his fantastical claims since the release are doing him no favours at all. Paranoid doesn't even come close. In spouting this rubbish, without a shred of proof, he has lost any respect I may have had for him.

To tell you the truth. I think that all this paranoia crap TH is spouting is actually a well orchastrated campain to draw attention to a film that TH knows is sub standard pap that no one will watch. So hes going all out to make a tw*t of himself knowing its good prees for his film.
Any publicity is good publicity yes...?

Excuse me but Evilnerfherder's comment, "Paranoid doesn't even come close, In spouting this rubbish, without a shred of proof" reffering to timbo's claims just seems way to extreme. I read the article on SyFy Portal: www.syfyportal.com/interviews.php?id=27 and the reporter gives several examples verifying Timbo's claims. Example: "The odd thing was that while Paramount was threatening litigation with us, they were telling the media and industry insiders that they had had no contact with us," Hines said. "But they were caught with a smoking gun by Susanne Ault at Variety Business News. She asked Paramount about lawsuits or legal threats against us and Paramount denied any contact with us. Then Ms. Ault produced threat letters to us from Paramount's attorneys and Paramount answered, 'No comment,' and refused to talk with her further." Hines' claims are corroborated in an article by Ms. Ault on the Video Business Web site. In it she names Jonathan Zavin, a New York partner in the law firm of Loeb & Loeb, as the attorney that contacted Pendragon between 2001 and 2004. Zavin is a member of the Executive Committee of the Copyright Society of the USA. According to the law firm’s website, he has extensive experience in intellectual property litigation and his clients have included major film studios and producers. Hines also said he was feeling heat from companies working on other "War of the Worlds" productions. "Jeff Wayne's attorney, who, by the way, pretends to be a fan with no financial interest in 'War of the Worlds' on the forums, has hit us with several legal maneuvers and legal threats," said Hines. "Every one of their claims was bogus and it was clear to us that they were attempting to draw our focus at a very critical time and/or see what they could get out of us. I've never had any problems with Jeff Wayne prior to that, but I have no respect for the way he has allowed his attorney to behave, on his behalf." There is much in this that is hard to dismiss. Are you saying that the Variety reporter is lying? And I'm curious who this attorney of Jeff Wayne might be. Does anybody have an idea? Does anybody know if Jeff Wayne's attorney writes in the chat groups? Anyway. For what it's worth.

To Mr. RustiSwords: I raised valid points about some things that seem to be getting distorted. Are you implying that I'm a lawyer for Timbo? You've got to be kidding. I'm just watching the show. Just because their are other views than yours doesn't mean there is a conspiracy against you. Talk about paranoid! I just read this stuff and see things being distorted. My above post stands. Are you calling the Variety reporter a liar? At least some of Timbo claims are verified. And if some are verified you can't really call him paranoid. According to some the critisizms aimed at Timbo, he seems to be so tiny nobody has heard of him, while at the same time powerful enough to have agents everwhere. So again I ask, who is this attorney of Jeff Wayne that Mr. Timbo is talking about? Does anybody have an idea? Does anybody know if Jeff Wayne's attorney writes in the chat groups?

Well whoever he is he must have identified himself or obviously Hines wouldn't have known who he is. I ain't seen anyone identifying themselves as Jeff Waynes attorney on this site or any of the other big sites - but there again sometimes I won't visit a particular site for ages so who knows. I'm sure someone on here would have pointed this out by now if he was on one of the chatrooms identifying himself though. More to the point - why would an attorney for Jeff Wayne go onto a chat forum, identify himself as Jeff Waynes attorney then make out/pretend that he has no financial interest in WOTW. Wouldn't it be slightly obvious to anyone that an an attorney for Jeff Wayne WOULD have a financial interest in WOTW as he would be working on behalf of him. Wouldn't that be one of the reasons someone like Wayne would use an attorney - to protect his financial and copyright interests etc? If an attorney wanted to issue legal notices to Hines he wouldn't have to go onto a forum to do it - so again, why would he need to pretend he's a fan? Maybe I'm missing something but it doesn't seem to make much sense.

I think there are two different things Timbo hines is saying:
1 "Jeff Wayne's attorney, who, by the way, pretends to be a fan with no financial interest in 'War of the Worlds' on the forums,
2 has hit us with several legal maneuvers and legal threats," said Hines. "Every one of their claims was bogus and it was clear to us that they were attempting to draw our focus at a very critical time and/or see what they could get out of us. I've never had any problems with Jeff Wayne prior to that, but I have no respect for the way he has allowed his attorney to behave, on his behalf."
I think I read somewhere that the moderator on this site, horsell_common, is somehow connected to Jeff Wayne and makes no secret of it. Maybe he could shed some light on whether or not Jeff Wayne's attorney chats on here. How Timbo would know that is a mystery. But if they had legal issues, Timbo may have found this out because of that somehow. Oh I do love a good mystery.

Considereing that this claim is more likely to be liabel than truth, I guess we won't know the truth of this until Jeff Waynes attorny, has taken Tim Hines to court for this comment.

Curious. Why is it more likely liable? Based on what? If it weren't true, you WOULD think Jeff Wayne's attorney would sue Timbo for such a comment.

Maybe he will. He stated something he could not prove as a matter of fact and was quoted on it. whether it's true or not, the comment was designed to Malign and effect Jeff Waynes Business interests.
Dangerous and I might add illiegal

I think it would only be illegal if it were untrue. That's why I was asking questions. I don't see where it is proven untrue. I did see that other of Timbo's claims were verified. And I thought it would be interesting exploring this about Jeff Wayne's attorney. But everybody seems so jumpy about it...I don't know why. It is true or it isn't. Oh well.

People are only 'jumpy', I think, because Little Timmy is held in such utter contempt now that it beggars belief when anyone tries to defend him, even if only partially.
For myself, I think maybe Paramount did lean on him a bit, maybe Jeff Wayne did too - after all, they both own copyrights of one kind or another, so it would be only natural for them to assert and defend their legal rights (whatever you may think of their actual products).
But even if true it doesn't detract from the fact that Little Timmy has constructed an absurd conspiracy theory edifice, making ludicrous claims about, say, Asylum (I mean come on, some of his allegations boil down to 'X was in a film directed by Y 20-odd years ago and then appeared in a movie directed by Z sixteen years later which was backed by a guy who used to play chess with the dentist of Y's third wife's cousin's chiropractor') and generally acting like a loon.
Plus it also doesn't detract one iota from the fact that his film is utter crap, and for that he has only his complete lack of talent to blame.

What is the sudden interest in Jeffs lawyer?.
George - far to many people on this site and others have followed the Pendragon Fairy Tale since day one and we all now too well that we should not take Hines seriously. I still believe this 'spouting off' of his is for the benifit of his re-release of the DVD to boost sales. He certainly got himself into the media for his recent comments and everyone knows this will help sales.
If people seem 'jumpy' its because of the let downs we have been dealt, too many promises of this, that and the other. It certainly does not help with TH talking twoddle again and involving huge companies - so that is another reason why people may seem a little jumpy. . . Not because TH statement has any truth, but because you never know when those companies will just say "right, thats enough, were not taking this any longer".
Jeff Wayne Music/SonyBMG, Pendragon Pictures, Asylum Pictures and Paramount Pictures - ALL of them have been on this site, they have told us and I know who they are.
I think its best we dropped the Jeff Wayne lawyer thing now as its turning into stale gossip.
