Okay, color me confused. I can't remember now exactly how I phrased my question to Charles about the Thunder Child scene in the Director's Cut, which he said hadn't been improved. Perhaps I asked if the FX were improved, and he said no. But McTodd said the scene had been improved.
This is certainly possible; the editing/pacing of that scene was one of the worst in the movie; it very repetitively and excessively cuts to individual reaction shots of the people on the ferry. The scene could easily have been improved by editing out some of that, without improving the FX one iota.
Of course this is sheer speculation on my part. Would you care to comment further, Charles?
As far as buying the new version, even if it is offered for retail sale-- As Nerfherder said: Once bitten, twice shy. I was willing to pay for the movie once, even tho I had already been warned by extremely negative early reviews. But I have no intention of giving Mr. Hines any more of my hard-earned shekels.

I didn’t remember the Thunder Child scene having been improved, but it was; and Tim was miffed with me for not noticing. I must have been distracted by my then-newborn son. I haven’t had a chance to watch it again, but he was probably right.
What the whole thing came down to for me (and still does) was something I do remember saying: I liked it - but if you didn’t like the first cut, the second isn’t going to change your mind.

But McTodd said the scene had been improved. No I didn't - on page 2 of this thread I wrote: Now, I may have been wrong, but that is what I wrote. And if Charles didn't even notice that the Chunder Child scene had been improved, well, that says a lot for the improvements, doesn't it?

McTodd, I was referring to when you later posted: Charles was wrong - Timbo did improve the Thunder Child scenes! ...but perhaps you were just joking about the post right above that comment.

I was joking - it was a reference to the post above it with the yellow toy boat.

I sat down last night and compared the recut Thunder Child scene to the original. There are differences, subtle though they are, and as I’ve said before, not enough to change the minds of those that (still) seethe over Pendragon’s version. But its all academic if the recut never made it to the shops.
Never have I earned the title “staunch supporter” with so little effort. If only other things in life were that easy, LOL.

Makes me wonder why he bothered! he should have reshot the the FX's for that scene at least.

I'm almost positive I noticed different footage in the recut, but it goes by quickly and seems quite subtle, IMO. I certainly can't say for sure that there wasn't newly shot footage in there. I watch WOTW movies with a different frame of mind than some I guess...which might explain why I liked this and Spielberg's version and many others hated them!

I like both version's too, i,m sure to be crucified by Rusti and the likes but so what, while Hines film has many many faults i'd still liked it for what it was.
Should i kill myself now?
