Hi all, Yesterday I´ve received an e-mail from RetroVision, that would publish the two books about the Pendragon film. That project has been cancelled!! This is the e-mail: We regret to inform you that the publication of the first 2 books pertaining to the "War of the Worlds" has been cancelled by the publisher. We regret any inconvenience. The third book "...From Wells to Spielberg" can be ordered directly from the publisher as indicated at www.retrovisionmag.com. If you check the website, you get the same message... Greetings, Johan

I dont think they would want to associate the so called "3rd book" War Of The Worlds: From Wells To Spileberg with Hines as that book is already out.

Hold on a minute everyone!
I've had suspicions that maybe, maybe this whole Pendragon thing wasn't quite what it seemed and that even though I think Hines exists, he was given the go ahead to make his extremely low budget crap film to keep fans of the book from bitching too much about Spielbergs reinvention, and of course to make extra money - by you know who.
Bit strange how the only book that's now being released is the Spielberg related one eh!

Still it's only yet another theory floating about, but stands to scrutiny

Here's another theory...
Hines made his crappy film completely off his own bat and conned Retrovision into pledging to publish tie-in books before they saw just how crappy it was.
Then they saw, and pulled the plug.
But as Spielberg's film is a wild success, they're still publishing the tie-in to his film.
A bit wild, I know, but I think it stands up to scrutiny...

Having one book on the making of Hines WOTW seemed a bit generous- but two? Whatever your opinion on the movie itself, I think we can all agree that there really is nothing there that warrants 2 making-of books in the first place.

With 140 millaroonies invested in it I would have it down to achieving some success even with SS trying to sab his own movie. But dont be too confident in this technological wonder SS has constructed. I know many who think it is SH11TE!

My opinion of Spielberg's film is neutral, to the extent that I've not seen it yet. It's not neutral to the extent that from what I've read I'm not even that bothered about seeing it.
However, I really don't think Spielberg et al needed any weird schemes to boost it.

This is certainly no surprise to me. I wonder how many they would have sold even if they did go through with it?

Unfortunately it would be difficult to write a book about almost everything about TWOTW and not include Spielbergs film. If the author did this he would be asked as to why he missed out one of two 2005 WOTW major releases. He included Spielbergs, the 53 film, Orson Welles radio play and Jeff Waynes, but it's odd how the author is being singled out for releasing a book about Spielbergs film when he hasn't. This book also does mention the Pendragon version.

Im sorry to be rude but........ would you just shut up already You can tell me to shut up all you want Armoured but the fact is big corporations use all sorts of tactics to undermine, undercut rivals or to sell their product. Paramount are only interested in making money and what better way to divert criticism against Spielbergs movie from Wells fans, than by making it appear that a faithful big screen adaptation is on the way aswell. Nice little side earner for them also as it won't affect Spielbergs film when it just goes straight to dvd. I'm not saying I am right just putting forward a theory.
