I am back from my american journey and aside from tropical storms, theme parks and areoplanes I bought this dvd.
The acting is good in parts Ogilvy is over the top! The likeness to the book is perfect, but too perfect it has not personal touch. The music score is really good an emotive.
Now an entire paragraph to the CG. Pooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. Good cg of the tripod legs and some other stuff is good. Why the fart did they film water moving in the background and actors in a studio on a cg boat for the thunderchild scene. Why not take the bugger out on the water and film it there same with the horse/cart riding scenes.
This had great potential to be a great Fanatic B-movie instead I have rated as a work in progress movie, which ranks around D-E movie.
I did enjoy it just got so peed off with the CG I got took out of it too much.

I was getting peed off in parts at the CGI but eventually just thought of the movie as a low-rate movie and took it for what it was, an adaptation.
To be honest the CG was the only thing to let it down, I loved the basement scene

Unfortunately CGI for me is NOT the only let down:
Incredibly beyond awful acting....I mean Ms Elphinstone can not even act AT ALL.
AND
EXTREEEEEMELY bad accents...they are totally beyond completely hideous.
So, you have to look beyond the CGI, the acting and the dialog spoken. It makes it awfully hard.
Yet in a bizarre way I had fun watching it, probably because it was the first WOTW I'd seen since the PAL version. And it DOES stick MOSTLY to the book which I DO appreciate.
But yeah, what a let down, I didn't know movies this bad could get released and distributed. Good news for the indy market I guess.
