Hi everyone. I couldn't find anywhere to put this so I'm sorry I had to start a new thread.
I've have two copies coming from my friend in the states on for myself which I'm really looking forward to seeing after some very positive comments, forget the special effects I'm more interested in the slower things and the endless walking sounds great, just how I see the book.
The other copy is for my parents, I've told them about this version for a long time and since my Dad introduced me to the book in the early 70's I think he deserves to see a victorian one in his lifetime don't you?
Anyhow I'll ask him for his comments on the filum and share them on the board. It should be interesting as he has been a Wells reader all his life infact I maybe the one who pinched his beloved copy of Tales Of Wonder from him in the 80's. *looking innocent*.
Everday I rush to see the postie to find it hasn't arrived yet my Girlfriend is eagerly awaiting it too after I've been going on about if for ages.
I'll give as good as review as I can from my point of view so don't expect me to gush or moan about the FX, I've never cared about them and never will it's the acting and everything that is more important. though from the sounds of it I was right about the score, you don't always need John Williams!!!!!!!
Hands up who prefers the Jimmy Stewart version of The Flight Of The Phoenix? Even though the modern one has possibly a spectacular plane crash, but whoever is in it, no one memorable I'm sure, can't hold a torch to the likes of Bannen, Finch, Attenborough, Borgnine, Kruger et al. And that was made in the 60's.
Okay so sounds like we don't get that quality of acting in this movie but as I say i'm still looking forward to it though I suspect my Girlfriend will leave me if it's total crap as she's had to put up with years of my gushing that "They are doing a proper Victorian War!"
