With thanks to Anthony over at www.eveofthewar.comWhile not been aloud to discuss any intimate details of Pendragon Pictures The War of the Worlds before its release, composer Jamie Hall gave us (www.eveofthewar.com) a tiny little insight on how well the The War of the Worlds scores has come along.
This is what Jamie had to say about his score after i contacted him early yesterday morning.
"Yes, I am the composer for "H.G. Wells' The War of the Worlds" by Pendragon Pictures. Thank you for your kind words about my music. I promised Pendragon not to discuss any of the intimate details of the film before it is released, but I will say that I was thrilled to get to work on an epic story such as this. The film ended up having quite a bit of music in it. I don't have an exact figure, but I would estimate that I wrote more than 100 minutes worth. I'll have to do an exact calculation here at some point. Both myself and Mr. Hines are quite happy with how the music turned out. Hopefully, if there is enough interest around the film when it is released, a soundtrack album will be created for it."

Interesting. Thanks, H.C.
Soundtracks are very important and can make or break a movie. Look at the before and after of 'Halloween.'

Presuming this information is true-- and nothing in the quote hints to me that it is not-- that suggests very strongly that the film has been finished. (Hooray! ) The score is almost always the final thing done on a film. Following the finish of a film, there is the film lab processing to make up prints for distribution. (Hoping, of course, that it will receive some sort of limited distribution, and will not be straight-to-DVD.) I believe from what I've heard that 2 weeks is about the minimum time for lab work; possibly up to 4-6 weeks. But we don't know what date the film was actually finished. For all we know, the lab work has already been done.

The words "blood" and "stone" spring to mind, still thanks for that, any little snippet helps at the moment. Maybe the music hall singing bit will be released as a single ;D

Great! Spielberg gets John Williams - Pendragon gets Jamie Hall?? Maybe the guys good but has anyone heard any music by him? Let's hope it's not the same type of cheap sounding/video game type music that was in the last trailer, because if it is it will ruin the film.

I posted this over on Eve of the Was as well. I googled him and found his website: www.JamieHall.netHe has some of his music clips up on his site. It looks like he has done some smaller movies, but nothing most people would have seen. He's done a little TV too.

A film like WOTW should have a great, memorable and outstanding musical score not just an average or even mediocre one.

I feel really sorry for anyone who’s got involved with this film because they think it’ll make their career. Break it, more like.

Ive just listened to the 'rocketman' clip & thought it was not that bad considering. Compare it to the James Horner variant from the rockerteer in erm, 1988/89 [not sure] & this sounds as good.

Especially when you're busy at that moment in time and haven't really got much time to search through the internet. Just thought that 1 or 2 people on this site might know the answer quickly that's all. Pardon me for asking!

And where is the money for the 'outstanding musical score' coming from then? Jesus, talk about being negative! It's easy for you to accuse people of being negative when they question Pendragons ability to make a film of one of the most famous and influential sci fi books ever written, but the fact is - is that this film should at least have the backing and financing from a major studio - like LOTRINGS did and it's bloody appalling that it hasn't. I've said it before - a classic book deserves classic treatment and that should mean the best in all parts of the production, from special effects through to acting, script and music etc, etc. An epic story like this should have the best talent and that usually [ not always I agree ] requires money. I'm not for one moment saying Pendragon can't pull this off and that Jamie Hall isn't up to the job but a lot of what we've seen so far from Pendragon doesn't exactly inspire much confidence. And I've been a lot less critical of Pendragon than quite a few people. If you read it, I did say that Jamie Hall appears to have done one legitimate film, so that's one positive thing. Once again though - if all Pendragon can do is a cheap straight to dvd film with cheap everything [ including music ] - then I'd rather they didn't bother.

And where is the money for the 'outstanding musical score' coming from then? Jesus, talk about being negative! You said it! Clearly some will not be happy even if Pendragon's film were to turn out to be the best movie ever made. Just like there were rabid Tolkien fans who raged at Peter Jackson for taking liberties with "Lord of the Rings". Funny, we haven't heard much from those particular naysayers since "The Two Towers" came out. Wonder why?
