Paramount only accepted that Tim had the right to make the movie. It has never been mentioned by Tim that they gave him the right to distribute it.
Knowing Tims optimistic outlook, he probably thought (like most) "If I now have the right to make it, I must also have the right to distribute it" - which is NOT what Paramount said. He should have got confirmation that he could make AND DISTRIBUTE the movie - he probably got too excited at being able to finally make it that he forgot about distribution until the last minute...[/glow]

I really want to discourage people from discussing these legal and copyright matters. No one really understands them completely - they are matters best left for lawyers and far away from these message boards.
