Explain please. Did you never see Mel Brooks' "The Producers"? That was an extreme example but the principle holds that if costs and overheads are going to be greater than revenue then the only course that makes any sense is to pay everyone off and abandon the production, writing off against tax..... Of course in the Brooks' film they tried to pay themselves too much and ensure the show was a flop by choosing a 'sure fire flop' - something so tasteless and awful that nobody would want to see it - so they chose to put on a Broadway musical called "Springtime For Hitler".... Of course the show was an amazing, runaway success..... And they were ruined..... I know it's not the same with Pendragon where they really were trying to make a successful film. However, if Hines now believes that the best course is to write off the production he is hardly likely to want to spend more money on publicity and distribution costs and risk insolvency. Paradoxically, any publicity might mean that he has to show the film and if he knows or has been advised that he cannot possibly get large enough audiences to make the profits that would attract more investors then he might, reluctantly, be forced to cut his losses and not open. He might even now be crying all the way to the bank or sobbing on his accountants shoulder. All the assumptions people are making are that he ought to do the sensible, rational thing. Under such circumstances people do not behave rationally.... they dither and keep hoping that something will turn up.... a last minute investor who will bankrole a release. The last thing such an investor would want to hear is that they are Pendragon's last chance, so telling everyone there is another 'secret' investor/distributor might seem like the best thing to do... not that it is. At the same time, they don't want to have the bank foreclosing so they are trying to keep costs down. That is one explanation. Speculation of course..... People will always think secrecy is a bad thing and assume the worst! Another explanation is that Hines wants to surprise everyone or he has some secret strategy we just haven't thought of..... Hi hope so because if not...... well I would not like to be Hines right now.... Maybe he is praying for a miracle..... that the same end visited on the Martians might be visited on his rivals Zoe

GENIUS, Mel Brookes! I didnt get it at first I was like "eh?" but I totaly agree. I posted the exact same theory in another thread about this whole thing being a tax loss exercise, its one of the only explanations that account for the handling of this camaign (the other being utter incompetence).

I subscribe to the 'utter incompetence' theory...
Although having now actually read Zoe's post, I'm wondering...
Damnit, she types sense.

She does make perfect sense and the Mel Brookes analogy is brilliant, although I too still think its down to utter incompetence, its just that simple.

I really hope this does not reflect the work done with the martians. O.o It was in the image section of his site. What do you mean? That is one of the Pendragon Martians, it's a scene where the Martian is sat at the back of the music hall watching that woman singing interminably, before he dozes off through sheer boredom and dreams about being in his Handling Machine pulling her clothes off whilst zapping her with wiggling green crayon. Come on, it's the only thing that can explain the trailer...
