World wide means places that are wide apart in the world, not just everywhere.
Global is everywhere in the world.

Oh come now Motile, don't say that if it was in a poundshop you wouldn't part with a shiny coin, not even the one...? I would watch it for free on the Telly as long as it didnt clash with the simpsons. I have come to the conclusion that this film NO MATTER WHAT THE SUBJECT MATTER is not worth my hard earned cash for many many reasons. The clincher was the link posted to eveofthewar on this thread showing the "get under the water" scene, you will noice between the people is a wall with bricks, except the back ground is a brickless CG building at an amazingly strange angle, add to that the orange blob and we get the basic idea of this movie as a whole. Not a finished shot? YES IT IS, no matter what the compression factor is its still fundamentaly wrong, this was part of the original trailer cut for the (ahem) Tsunami so it WAS finished.

This is supposed to be a scene from the chapter 'What I Saw Of The Destruction Of Weybridge And Shepperton'. In that above image you see people and the Narrator, the later fleeing from the advancing Fighting Machines. As indicated in the book and as the picture shows, the Narrator is still on the side of the river bank. However in the book he shouts 'Get under water!', then runs down the gravelly beach headlong into the water - but where in the story (according the to above picture) does it mention 'prior' to him saying 'Get under water!' is there a flash of light, explosion or even Heat Ray discharge. Artistic licensing if I have seen one I think. H_C

Your spot on there H_C, artistic license in movie making is ok for the sake of the narrative, its the actual mechanics in the picture, for instance theres a child looking directly at the camera, the orange blob or 'heatray' is coming from a 100 foot tall alien killing machine but only the narrator seem to have noticed, its bizzare...
Art is one thing but come on....

So, the heat ray DOES strike the town - no need for atistic license after all!!
I don't think the Narrator has three arms - I just think that the bloke behind is taking the opportunity for a quick grope in the confusion!!

Please correct me if Im wrong, but when the Narrator shouts to get under water he is in Shepperton where as the Heat Ray discharge is towards Chertsey. It mentions now where in the book of impact of HR anywhere near to the Narrator.

Artistic licence isnt a dirty word but if its not done well its simply detracts from the story.....like this scene and the electro bondage scene and Big Ben and so on...

I'm not worried about artistic license, I'm worried about the poor quality of the image . Just look at the staircasing on the horse's head, for example: either the footage has been blown up from DV or Digibeta, or there's some really bad compositing going on.

Just checked - he is in Shepperton. However, why does he tell everyone to get under water, when the town nearby is being destroyed? The 5th FM hadn't started on Shepperton. I suppose you have to have the heat ray hit near him to give the film some sense of direction. Otherwise it's a case over "Feck me! They've burnt the neighboring town! Best get under water then... for reasons I shall not divulge at this time...!"

True. However, why does he tell everyone to get under water, when the town nearby is being destroyed? The 5th hadn't started on Shepperton. The heat ray is in his mind, the only refuge he can see is the water.

Because the Narrator had seen what the Heat Ray can do when he was on Horsell Common and the attack on Woking after the storm.

" think the real, fundamental problem here is that either PP have no PR staff, or they went into a coma about two months ago and haven't woken up yet. Even with a $12 million budget they should have someone whose job is solely or primarily to handle PR, including scanning the limited number of WoTW web sites... and it should be clear to them that a lot of legitimate questions are being asked about their movie and none are being answered."
Somebody read my mind......if my PR you also include marketing and advertising as well as PR proper. What amazes me is that Hines has a sucessful company making commericals for the North West US market. You think he would have learned about marketing, Advertisng and PR from that but he apparenly did not. I think a lot of people are allowing their desire for a good period version of WOTW to overule the harsh voice of reality. PR and Advertising are incredibly important to the sucess of a film on any level. It is possible to make very small budget film and sucessfully market it.

Sorry this isnt really on topic, but have people noticed when 'Malfunkshun' said he was leaving these forums, he actually meant it. He used to be on here 24/7, and now he has gone and also so has a lot of the crazy arguements that were pissing people off.

Indeed, a character with a fanatical hate of the Spielberg project but a character none the less. Last I heard he had a barny with nerf.

I don't suppose one of you could give me the lottery numbers for this Saturday ....as obviously some of you are quite adept at fortelling future events.....alas I do not possess a crystal ball .....SO i cannot tell either way what is gonna happen with this film ...I can speculate that it may come out , may not, or it may be rewritten into Mary bloody Poppins ....but I do not know, NOBODY KNOW's and the people who do DEFINATELY know ARE NOT TELLING.
All this arguing is crap, getting us nowhere and it really is getting tiresome....
All we can do is wait and see .....is that a concept too advanced to grasp ..no amout of positive waves/ good humoured posts or endless arguments is gonna change that.
I have faith in this production, and I to be fair would like to THANK EVERYONE for the passionate debates we have had about this production...I sincerley hope TH DOES read these posts.
But as I have said ....We cannot change anything, we can only wait and see
