This topic has probably been brought up before now but there are so many threads and the computer screen gives me head ache so forgive me if this bores you . Anyway, does anyone from the UK know if the Pendragon movie will make it to local cinemas like UGC or Odeon? Evan if it is only one of those showings in the back screen for the obscure arty films lol.

"Evan if it is only one of those showings in the back screen for the obscure arty films lol. " It seems as thought the Pendragon film is heading either for that (limited Art House release) or straight to a DVD near you.

Shame, I was looking forward to dragging my friends (kicking and screaming) to go and see it. Oh well I will get the DVD, just when a more faithful re-make is made they dont have the money to release it on a big enough scale.

Money didnt come into the equasion, loads of low budget flicks make it to the cinema and this wasnt exaclty a mega low budget with $43 million squid to play with and no stars eating into the budget. Its down to quality and a grose miss handling the whole camaign leading to no distributer picking the film up.

Oh I see, I had no idea just how big a budget they had, perhaps they will delay release until it gets picked up but with Spielbergs film coming out as well investors might be worried about it being over shadowed.

The investors were Bill Gates and friends of Bill Gates, they invested after Tim Hines showed a short low budget film called bugwars at a Seattle film festival. Tim Hines has stated that he wants his film out first for many reasons, but it looks like its going to be a DVD release for most of us.

Until we hear otherwise from the horse's mouth we can only report the official line as it stands. Tim Hines said a while back that there is a network of distributors lined up and the film will be released to cinemas. Whilst I can understand that it's looking a little worrying as we've heard nothing else, I see no reason to believe that that still can't be the case. It's a bit of a 'wait and see' situation right now, frustrating though that is. To be honest, as long as it comes out on DVD and I get to see it, I'll be happy with that.

Motile ...Do you really .... REALLY know for a FACT that this will not be released into a cinema .... if so can I suggest you tell us HOW/WERE you got this info from cos most of us haven't had any info whatsoever other then the 30th March date. Seen the film Kelly's Hero's, then this may sound familier ......"always with the negative waves" as Nerf said ..Lets just wait and see

To be fair to Mr Motile.. he hasn't actually stated as undisputed fact that this won't make it to cinemas. No one is in a position to do so. He's just stating his opinion that he would find it a missed chance if it doesn't make it and he thinks it will be a straight to DVD job..

Im just excited about seeing it in its orrigonal..ness. I saw the league of extraordinary gentlemen yesterday, I dont know if you guys n gals will have but I noticed a particularly interesting news poster on the wall of a victorian London building. I like victorian literature and seeing it as films is just, for want of a better word good.

If you go back to the original question it was.... "does anyone from the UK know if the Pendragon movie will make it to local cinemas like UGC or Odeon? " To which I replied not in a million years. It will never reach a main stream cinema, if it was going to in the next six months it would be advertised as coming soon, and going from those trailers they wouldnt touch it with a barge pole. Any other digs Tom, you big fluffy genius you!

You know - I've been watching people bicker back and forth for weeks about whether or not this thing will ever make it into theatres or just go straight to DVD. And as much as I've dreamed about this period-set film for years (and I’ve held out for Hines and Co. pretty well) I have just this to say: I don't believe this will ever make into mainstream theatres - ever. Perhaps a few "art house" cinemas (as I've seen mentioned on this board) or perhaps in a third world country that's still using Betamax. Perhaps eventually it may pop up in a few more theatres here in North America but wise release? No way? Now I did say that's what I believe. And there's no amount of convincing that's going to make me feel otherwise. I imagine the same goes to the majority of you who have your own convictions. Why bother wasting your time trying to change someone else's or prove them wrong? If you want to do that just sit and wait for March 30th or hold your breath until the next natural/man-made disaster derails this thing for another year or two. Life's too short!

ok I admit it is looking bleak on the release front ..
but..
Why would Pendragon go through all this effort for a film which few are gonna see , they are a small outfit which I assume cannt afford to waste 48/23 mil.. or even what they have spent so far . Hines must WANT this to be on general release, and if the production is in trouble the Hines must be crapping himself or trying to do some SERIOUS catching up to try and get it out ..stright to DVD ain't gonna recoup their outlay
as has been said ..lets wait and see

ok I admit it is looking bleak on the release front .. but.. Why would Pendragon go through all this effort for a film which few are gonna see There are a couple of reasons why a company would carry on regardless, such as that mighty thing known as a "tax loss" if your company is failing and you owe loads in taxes that you cannot pay one way to get out of it is to write of a project as a tax loss (some night clubs are purpose built to loose money, its a way of getting out of paying tax) so if this film stated to fail and no money was made from Chrome one way to survive would be to let the failure run its course and register the "tax loss". Another reason to keep going are your wages, does anyone think Hines hasnt paid himself a hefty wack for directing this film? Im sure hes done alright out of it, a good reason to carry on regardless, remember hes getting the editors wages too. Yet another reason is that they are a film production company, they make low budget films, if they fail on this they have failed with every film they have made which cant look good on its portfolio. The list goes on. But personaly I think its right on schedule, I think it was meant for DVD, it was never intended for the cinema, I think we have fixated on the date given by Hines but the date was just another piece of Hines toffee given to the fans to chew on. So there may be no problems, the film might be close to being finished and the DVD cover design might already be in the printing stage.
