There seems to be a lot of fuss on IMDB and (less so) here about Pendragon's lack of a distributor for 'War of the Worlds'. Where has all this come from? It says on most news articles that they are going through MIPCOM which seems to be a company involved with Cannes and european television. Just google 'MIPCOM and WOTW and you'll see. www.mipcom.comI can't find any evidence of War of the worlds being there, but then again I couldn't find much on their site! I tried hunting their database but only says companies that joined them this year. It's almost as helpful as Pendragon's website. Anyway, back to the point, why do people keep saying that they have no distributor when we were told they did in the original press release that the film had been shot?

We've been told a lot of things from the start that have turned out to be bollocks, Hines isnt known for telling the whole truth, remember he's quoted as saying its going into intrenational release march 30th but hang on no body seems to know that except Hines. No distributer has been mentioned AT ALL, not on the movie poster, not in three "trailers" and still not on the website, with only 6 and a half weeks to go the distributer should be common knowledge even if its going straight to DVD. Sticking up for Hines is one thing (and commendable under the circumstances) but denying the truth is folly.

I'm not really sticking up for him, and I know most of what he has said is most likely rubbish. I was just confused that people seem to be saying 'where is the distributor?' when one was mentioned but no one has followed it up. I can't find anything on MIPCOM's website about Pendragon and vice-versa, but the mention has been made that MIPCOM is the distributor. Seems strange that he would actually mention another company without reason, especially if he is lying. Surely MIPCOM could just say 'rubbish!' and discredit him. He still could be talking out his rear-end though as like you said, nothing had been mentioned on the trailers or the site.

I don't believe that MIPCOM is a distributor. I might be wrong on this, but the way I remember it, Hines said in a "press release" that the distributor would be announced at MIPCOM--an international gathering for inde film makers--on Oct 04. It wasn't.
Pendragon apparently has an in-house distributor named "Escape Entertainment". Check out the Other Films link on their web page.

Memory surves me correctly, but MIPCOM is not a distribution company/organisation.

"Pendragon Pictures expects a spring 2005 release for H.G. Wells' The War Of The Worlds, however the exact date will be announced by Pendragon's distributor at MIPCOM this October."
This statement is saying to me that Pendragons distributer will be announcing it at the MIPCOM event, not that MIPCOM is the distributer! Of course by inference this was October 2004 not the current event in 2005!
MIPCOM just looks to me like a event where companies go to promote themselves. It stands that he still hasn't announced who his distributer is.
Of course I'll gladly be corrected on this one.

hmmm, How strange. I just sent an e-mail to MIPCOM to see if they have ever heard of Hines and his War of the Worlds. I'll let everbody know if or when I get a response!
and also 'exact date will be announced by Pendragon's distributor at MIPCOM this October'
In the article I read, they omitted the 'at' so it made out MIPCOM was the distributor! My bad! Either way it makes sense for MIPCOM to have heard of Pendragon,,,

As somebody who has worked as a theater manager in the US, They need a established distributor to get the film even into the Art House/Indie Circuit. In house distributors ,unless they have established themsleves as a major distributor, have no muscle and find it impossible to get the film any kind of real distriubtion, limited or otherwise.

Thanks for that. An in-house distributor didn't seem legit--although I don't know if that's the route they plan to go. Still, it's a mystery. I've got this nagging suspicion that the ultimate distributor will be e-bay. That's a funny scenerio: all of us bidding against each other for DVD copies.

hahahaha! I bet they won't give us a 'Buy it now' option either. If there's only one copy up for sale, the person that buys it must be able to copy it!

One possiblity: They have decided to sell it as a Mini series or Movie to Television. It' s seem a natural for the Sci Fi Channel. The budget was low enough that they could conceivably so that and still make a profit for Pendragon. But Pendragon has dropped the ball as far as keeping it's supporters informed. They seem to have done everything possible to kill any buzz the film had. A lot people who were supporters have gotten very skeptical.

I saw a bit about Pendragons distributors on Kensforce. I've looked again but I can't see the actual article on there now. As far as I can remember they were a bunch of Anime distributors who had joined forces to distribute their films in America. Chrome [ though live action ] seems a bit like an Anime type film?

No it doesnt. It seems more like a CG film, anime is totally different.

Look at some of the costume designs and the fact that a lot of Anime films have female / cyborg type lead characters wandering around with guns. I'm not saying it's exactly the same as an Anime film but there's definitely a similarity there.

Maybe Pendragon should approach Poundland or the 99 cent store to take up disrtibution duties.

Maybe they'll be sneaking copies of the film into Blockbusters. (its been known) Take over the projector room on some cinemas so when we go in to see some film we end up getting WOTW ;D
