I was checking the 'Eve of the War' forum when I came passed this. www.mediastation.co.uk/twotw.htmDon't know what to think of it yet. Are these the images used at the Musical's live performances? Tripod

I think one of the best bits in the clip would be when the leg of the fighting machine stomps onto the ground and the narrator is looking up at it. Really gives you an idea about the size of that thing.
But then again, it's all good! ;D

I know there has been concerns over the size of the tripods & they have been "spielberged", well correct me if i am wrong but the novel did state them to be taller than the highest steeple? Don't forget it being reported that one appeared above Big Ben! & for those of us fortunate enough to have the collectors edition of the album i recommend looking at the DVD again! After all From what i saw on that disc I believe HG Wells put the Tripods at roughly 400 feet when at full height! Hey i could be Wrong but that would explain the alledged "New " size??

H.Gs tripods were only 100ft in height.
The "one appeared above Big Ben" is taken from Jeff Wayne's musical version, but that could indicate that either the Wayne/Trim machines are a lot bigger than Big Ben OR that Big Ben has been reduced to size by the Heat Ray.

I don't like it - when I have more time I'll go into details on why...

It is cool, especially on a 100ft wide screen but elements could use some tidying up, realisticness needs to be addd with reguards some of the textures etc. Having said that it appears to be better and more realistic than the shots of the pendragon film that I have seen.

Well I watched it for the first time last night and overall I'm fairly impressed. I don't have a problem at all with the tripods being made larger than Wells descriptions [ I think this film should expand certain things for dramatic effect ]. The Martian creatures looked good and there was some impressive shots in there [ especially the tripod foot crashing down next to the bloke ]. That being said - I hope this isn't the finished article as there's still bags of room for improvement and even though the tripods 'eyes' look slightly better than E.Es test shots - I'm still very unsure about them. Plenty of potential there though.

I love the CGI effects but what I dislike is the real-life actors in it, it's just too unrealistic.

It's not photo realistic. But then six people had twelve weeks to do that...

I tell you what - they look a damn sight better and more realistic than fully cgi humans. Cgi humans could ruin this film and make the whole thing appear cartoonish. Sky Captain has shown what can be done with live actors in cgi backgrounds. I fully hope they go down that route as cgi is not able to give fully convincing humans yet. I thought they blended in well.

In the Tour CGI there is a part where the real Russell Watson on stage is lifted into the screen (not literally, obviously, but appears to be) and dropped into the Handling Machine basket. I actually asked if the on screen person was a real actor melded with the CGI or purely CGI as I couldn't tell (although, to be fair, he was pretty much sillhouetted most of the time). Turns out he was CGI. Doug Fiddler (the director of the CGI) told me that photo-realistic CGI can be done, given the time and budget... neither of which they had for the Tour. Having said that, I liked the real actors in it. It gave it something it might not have had otherwise and worked really well for the Tour. Whether that would work as well in a 2 hour movie is another thing.
